ALOW ME TO EXPLAIN.... KANYA WEST MAKES GREAT MUSIC IE MOLODY, BEAT AND VOCALS...... DEVIN DOSE THE EXACT SAME THING EXCEPT WITH A WEST COAST STYLE..... MOST WEST COAST RAPPERS GET A BEAT AND FLOW ON TOP OF IT.... DEVIN GETS A BEAT AND MAKES A SONG OUT OF IT JUST LIKE KANYA WEST.... AND TEXAS IS WEST COAST WITH A SOUTHERN TWIST AND DR. DRE MAKES SOME OF HOMEBOYS BEATS SO HE'S A WEST SIDER TO ME.
THIS QUOTE WAS TAKEN FROM THE GENERAL HIP-HOP FORUM.

I DON'T AGREE WITH IT AT ALL...
HOWEVER, I POSTED IT HERE SO OUR SOUTHERN HOMIES COULD ELEBORATE ON THIS DUDE'S COMMENT ABOUT TEXAS BEING WEST COAST.

ANY ONE CAN TELL THIS IS COMING FROM A "YO"

THAT UNDERSTANDS MUSIC THAT HAS A "R&B OR SOUL " TOUCH TO IT THEN IT IS LESS THAN, THE WEST AND SOUTH SHARE THAT COMMON ELEMENT, AND IT IS CLEAR THAT THEY DONT LIKE IT...SOME ONE SAY AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in h-town were more gutter with our music. we talk about the fun sh*t we do and ride on more than killing motherfu*kers. the west is more gang related than the south. but production wise we are the same. this is only in houston.

SOUTHERN RAP, particularly TEXAS RAP, HAS STOOD IT'S GROUND THE PAST FEW YEARS....
ALL OUR UNDERGROUND HOMIES WHO BEEN GRINDIN ARE INKING MILLION DOLLAR DEALS....ITS WELL DESERVED, AND ITS TEXAS SWEAT, NOT WEST COAST SWEAT, THAT MADE THEM REACH THE TOP.

lol...i was just makin a lil joke.....
and i totally agree that ol boy is as SOUTHERN as they come..
i've always felt since the rise of GETO BOYS we've had a kinda symbiotic relationship:
they never wanted 2 give the WEST shine, and tried 2 keep us out...
BUT THEY COULDNT! same with yall TEXAS folk.....
and as MADDOG mentioned, alot of the production style is very similar.....
as a WEST coast rap fan and musician i know the bond there and here
between artists has always been pretty strong:

D.O.C.
(one of the instrumental people of puttin "gangsta" rap on the map;
almost every time u heard EAZY-E or DR. DRE rap it was that man's pen)
is actually from TEXAS....
as is BIG LURCH....

Everyone should know that TEXAS(aka the southwest) and the westcoast are connected thru several artists being from the south and moving from the south to the west and vice versa and the storytelling elements are similar cuz the music puts you in a laidback mood.

I dont know what you try'n to say but theirs no connections with TEXAS(not tha south west, but tha DIRTY DIRTY!) & cali NONE!...tha only one I can think of is that gangsta rap was heavily influenced down here but thats about it...& tha only state that TEXAS gots deep connections with is tha boot aka LOUISIANA...cuz everyone here knows or is related to someone from tha boot...everyone in tha south knows this...
