bay aint as big as it was before so it cant be bigger... look at all the plaques that got stacked in the bay during 95-98, once we start bringing those gold and platinum plaques back then the bay is back

not just popular,i think its just a better overall, lot of quality shit has came out in this year alone. so if the product is good of course the popularity is going to come with it.bumpin more bay shit in the past 6 months than i have in years.this is how it should be.
I got to disagree with this. I bought a couple of new artists albums out of curiosity (I'm not fitting to name drop, but there are active topics on all of them here right now), the quality and effort just is not there like it was with early 90s Frisco shit, and the Mike Mosley, Khayree era, what we got now is some slick album covers, 2 radio songs, and an album of filler.

But lyrically we got mcs that are "ready" for nation wide.

back in the mid 90's it was aaaallllllllllllll on the radio...............

it was also aaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllll on B.E.T.

so i dont agree.i think theres more fans and a hell of a lot more artists, but its not out there like it used to be..............
I agree, back in the 90's you couldn't turn on rap city and not see at least 5-6 bay video each episode. Cats like 40, too short, rappin 4 tay, PAC, 3x's, Digital undergound, hammer, mac mall, spice 1, richie rich, the luniz, hiero, and the list goes on, all had videos and songs in constant rotation nation wide. Some of you younger cats might not know but in those days the Bay was a major factor in the music industry.

What I think is really happenin is that the Bay is gettin back to the level in which we were in the early and mid 90's. I think difference this time will be that our culture will also make a huge impact instead of just our music. 100

EVERYONE HERE HAS A VALID POINT.

But in my opinion (like I'm ever at a loss for words and shit LOL) ,
The bay is not more popular than ever. It's just is getting the most surface attention these past few years than it has since the REAL glory days which were undisputedly the early to mid 90's. Now, when I say surface attention I mean it from three aspects that count the most as a bay artist.......retail , industry , and media.

Yeah, were getting the attention from all three , but we are only POPULAR to the fans. Industry and Media only pay ATTENTION to artists as long as they are RETAIL popular with the fans, because they dictate who is put on and who is not.......after all industry smoke and mirrors have disappeared at least.......but we all know the truth, which is that some (not all) levels of artist interest by the fans are really just " force feeder " media campaigns that are bought and paid for.

Now the bay is popluar than it has been in a long time but this is NOT the peak , and these are NOT the glory days. The glory days consist of world wide commercial media , retail and consumer attention that is birthed and regenerated through a mass level of popularity that we , as much as we want SOOOOOOO BAAADDD to be , are just NOT on yet.

This point is so hard to discuss with cats who are either too young to fully conceptualize or just simply had nothing to do with bay area hip hop durring the early and mid 90's.

Mark my word , THE BAY AS A WHOLE IS NOT BACK......just the overall creativity level and certain artists are.

But I do strongly believe THE BAY WILL BE BACK SOONER THAN MOST OF US COULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED.

That's regardless of who you prefer........ KMEL or myself.

PEACE.

Ive heard Mac Dre in Mexico, Keak Da Sneak and Frontline in SD and LA. Ive heard all of them on Sirius radio. Ive heard the Team had the number 1 song in New Mexico for like 2 months. When you turn on KMEL about 30% of the music is bay area music. I seen Mac Dre cd's in Borders Bookstore. The Bay Area indy stores always have #1 bay area sellers. Theres also the backpacker hip hop artists in the bay like Dell, the Coup, Zion I and others who are doin big big things for themselves. Yea Id say the bay is probly more popular than ever before... I agree that it has also has become a big factor in shaping culture in the bay area and vice versa.
thank you!

HA, how does "number 1 in New Mexico" compare to multi-platinum? Hell what was the last Bay Area record to even go gold? Even 250k? Bay shit is prolly more popular than in the last 2-3 years but how can anybody who knows what they are talkin about say its more popular than ever?

We are just now getting to the point where bay music is running the bay again. Before this phase of the movement, we werent even the most popular music at home. That has changed, and now its just time for us to make good videos to match the music and let the music spread.
