EVERYONE HERE HAS A VALID POINT.
But in my opinion (like I'm ever at a loss for words and shit LOL) ,
The bay is not more popular than ever. It's just is getting the most surface attention these past few years than it has since the REAL glory days which were undisputedly the early to mid 90's. Now, when I say surface attention I mean it from three aspects that count the most as a bay artist.......retail , industry , and media.
Yeah, were getting the attention from all three , but we are only POPULAR to the fans. Industry and Media only pay ATTENTION to artists as long as they are RETAIL popular with the fans, because they dictate who is put on and who is not.......after all industry smoke and mirrors have disappeared at least.......but we all know the truth, which is that some (not all) levels of artist interest by the fans are really just " force feeder " media campaigns that are bought and paid for.
Now the bay is popluar than it has been in a long time but this is NOT the peak , and these are NOT the glory days. The glory days consist of world wide commercial media , retail and consumer attention that is birthed and regenerated through a mass level of popularity that we , as much as we want SOOOOOOO BAAADDD to be , are just NOT on yet.
This point is so hard to discuss with cats who are either too young to fully conceptualize or just simply had nothing to do with bay area hip hop durring the early and mid 90's.
Mark my word , THE BAY AS A WHOLE IS NOT BACK......just the overall creativity level and certain artists are.
But I do strongly believe THE BAY WILL BE BACK SOONER THAN MOST OF US COULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED.
That's regardless of who you prefer........ KMEL or myself.
PEACE.
