Why is it that in 1985, porn sales were 79 million, but now in 2001 they are 759 million? You can easily find free porn all over the internet.
My point:
If you find a way to work with the system, you might be able to prosper more. I've always seen peer-2-peer networks (napster, kazaa, etc) as a means to weed out the horrible artists, or artists that aren't in it for the music, or to further their music. The type of Kazaa user I've always been, is the type that uses it to check out a song that someone has mentioned is tight. If I check out the song, and I feel it sucks, I probably won't give the artist any money when I see the album in the store. If I dig the shit, I'll research information about them and then purchase their album.
Oh yeah, and the reference I got for the numbers was off this website:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,947880,00.html
Also, an interesting book on America's underground economy is referenced on that site, the book is titled "Reefer Madness" (if anyone is interested.
