Why is it that in 1985, porn sales were 79 million, but now in 2001 they are 759 million? You can easily find free porn all over the internet.

My point:
If you find a way to work with the system, you might be able to prosper more. I've always seen peer-2-peer networks (napster, kazaa, etc) as a means to weed out the horrible artists, or artists that aren't in it for the music, or to further their music. The type of Kazaa user I've always been, is the type that uses it to check out a song that someone has mentioned is tight. If I check out the song, and I feel it sucks, I probably won't give the artist any money when I see the album in the store. If I dig the shit, I'll research information about them and then purchase their album.

Oh yeah, and the reference I got for the numbers was off this website:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,947880,00.html

Also, an interesting book on America's underground economy is referenced on that site, the book is titled "Reefer Madness" (if anyone is interested.

Kazaa is a very useful tool, in my opinion. I know artists on the siccness that have leaked their OWN albums on kazaa to get better known. Kazaa is tight.

I don't use Kazaa but I do DL music from sources unknown :) If I like a CD I will definatley buy it. If it's not that tight the burned cd will probably get thrown around and eventually lost all together. There are a lotta people like me and there are a lotta people who aren't like me.

I think Kazaa only hurts big name artists and only helps small artists (Such as A-Wax), not to call you small mane but there are a lotta people who wouldn't buy your shit if they haven't heard you and Kazaa is an easy way for them to hear your music. If they like you most will buy it. Fuck the ones that won't but there will always be fuckers like that.

yea well see if that works i dont think just by getting rid of the peer to peer will save this industry. i think this can back fire for the music industry because people can say fuck it these people make all this money and trippen because instead of making 10 mill they only making 5 mill and boycott the music industry like they did with baseball. so well see how people take that response and see if the sells increase

Damn, I just posted this same thing in another thread.
"I think the internet hurts established artists more than guys just starting off. C-Bo, E-feezy, yeah they get pirated. The exposure does themno good.... everybody already kows them. Michael Jackson or Madonna have a gripe. People don't download their songs just to "preview them".

That is completely diffrerent from new artists or indie labels without a lot of notoriety. I think it actually helps new people. The exposure gained is priceless. You take the good with the bad.
Downloads, I don';t believe are the reasons people sell 1,000 units as opposed to 25,000. SO its not like it is stopping you from really making a dent inthe game and denying you the capital to really be a factor. It may take a while longer to build the numbers you want, but I think that is an excellent trade off for the exposure."

We are in agreement

It looks like kazaa is downsizing cause there are a lot less files on searches, hardly anything now. Does this mean the end is near?

Before Kazaa, there was cd burners. Before cd burners, you could dub your favorite shit to tape. Bootlegging is never going to go away. The more you fight against it, the more you're going to push away fans. Everybody wants free music. Now, it's understandable that the artist wants and needs to make money, so instead of complaining how shit is so fucked up, let's brainstorm to find a way to use peer-2-peer networks as a marketing tool.
