So wait, why is III, a lower number than IV, better than IV? In otehr words, why would one want to REGRESS from IV to III...if they master IV?

That makes ZERO sense.
more of a challenge. sf4 is being set up for the casual gamer. so most hardcore players will shy away from it. pick up and play is good for the casual gamer. not for a tournament player that thinks he can get beat by a button masher at any time. besides outside of the 3-d graphics sf4 has brought nothing new to the table as far as gameplay, they even took away aspects from sf3. so if anything i think sf4 is regresssing to appeal to a wider audience

there are still tournaments for the original sf2. there are plenty of people that say sf2 is still far superior to newer versions.

fighting games arent about graphics, new characters and moves like most genres are. most fighting game fans just want a system that is balanced and can provide hours of gameplay in order to master a single character. some of the most popular fighting games worldwide are may look like the worst to the average gamer (i.e. all the videos smurf posts that people make fun of him for) but the reason they are popular is the fighting engine, has nothing to do with the how the game looks

I had no idea people were so competitive about fighting games. I've always been a casual fighter who likes to do a few fatalities and this might explain why a lot of fighters now days although being highly rated are boring to me..

I played this in the arcades in japan it's not far off from the series. There's always going to be purists that complain about the next version. I'm sure after 5 years there will be a 4th SF group (2,3,4,alpha series)

also C.Viper is dop :siccness:

@Hands,

Well if you're only playing by yourself they're all boring. However once you're introduced to high level play in fighting games it's an entirely different world. There is a certain feeling you get when you play some one on a competitive ground. You can't really explain it, you'll either be motivated to be the best player you can or you'll be totally put off and probably won't touch a fighting game again. lol

However most people never experience it and think of fighting games as button mashing for an hour with a group of friends while picking which character looks coolest.

The thing about 3S is that it is a medium that is 100% about mind games. You constantly need to think ahead. Watch some vids on youtube, it's all about setups and reactions.

I'm excited for SFIV but personally I would be lying if I didn't say most of that anticipation is because it's going to introduce a lot of people who don't or never have played before into fighting games. Even if it's only 1 out of every 20 or so that can get to a decent level, considering that SFIV is going to sell shit loads, it'll still be a nice revamp.

To hell with using 4 as a stepping stone to 3. If someone wants to learn 3, let them pick up 3 and learn on their own. Dumbing down SF 4 for the casual gamer is going to lead to two things: extreme gayness, and decline in skills due to lack of challange (which leads to more gayness.)

I had no idea people were so competitive about fighting games..
how people use certain characters determines alot on how they are going to change them in future games

the changes to the new HD remix are perfect examples of that. guiles new flash kick and other little tweaks like that were taking directly from pro players in order to make it the definitive tournament game

most 2-d fighting games arent made with casual gamers in mind. thats what scares me about this sf4

capcom is trying to appeal to both the casual and hardcore gamer.
the only things that are in 3d is the background; the characters and occasional special moves being executed. the gameplay is 2d.

it will feel like SFII when you play it.

To me, its just a fighting game. I dont take them serious, so i guess imjust casual. However, SF is never BORING...i find the AI to be challenging once you put the computer on the harder levels. Not to mention, i fuck aroudn with friends and what have you.

Lets be honest here..these are GAMES....they are meant to be FUN. Who gives a shit HOW its used for FUN? Once people start taking entertainment to serious...it loses its fun factor. Now some casual gamers have to worry about being criticized for just plain having fun.

Not to mention, last i checked, companies who make things, have ONE goal in mind..to make MONEY.

to me if the game isnt deep it gives me no reason to play. i dont get any enjoyment out of a game i can master in a matter of hours. no challenge = no fun. its not like i want it to be challenging because i take my fighting games hella serious, thats just what i expect from all games.

soul calibur is a button mashers dream,i played that shit for one week and got bored to death of it. not because its not a good game, and not fun. i had tons of fun playing my friends, but at the end of the day when i am playing by myself i get no gratification from playing the computer in a game that takes no skill to play whatsoever.
