....when rapping was left to the professionals.
OK, I'm over 30 years old which means I'm about as old as rap music itself. I have seen plenty of rappers come and go including the old school and the new school. Rap used to be interesting in the late 80's early 90's, now it seems like some regions are just bullshitting. I don't bump down south rap but at least they are making it fun with all the stupid songs about dancing and stuff. The Soldier Boy, Coffee Shop etc., some of them have realized that in order to move units and get mass radio play you have to appeal to the women and kids and dumb down your lyrics in addition to paying for spins, magazine ads and video play. Have you noticed the stupidest songs also have high quality videos to them ? Somebody has a formula or there is a group of dudes down south giving playa prices for major videos. Back to my point if you are not bring anything "new" and "exciting" to the rap game you should move to another section of rap like production, writing or artist development. If you're still rapping about killing people and slanging dope then you are outdated. If you're over 30, rapping and have not at least went Gold in your past projects, find some younger dudes to get behind like EA Ski did with Frontline to rejuvenate your career or just stop, young fans don't like the idea of their grandfathers rapping. I'm not saying EA Ski was washed up or didn't go Gold with any of his projects because I believe that he has gone Platinum with one of his singles before I think.
If you are grinding out your mixtapes, cut that shit out and put together a real cd, we're sick of those damn things. If you're rapping and you can't take negative criticism and want to fight everybody that says you suck, change your panties to boxer briefs and calm down everybody will not lie to you like you're the best thing since iPods.
This has been a message from a guy that has seen it, done it and stopped doing it because it wasn't fun anymore. Peace.
