Between me and my pops we have over 500 DVD's (My dad just likes buying movies). Anyways they take up a lot of space and my dad's not really keen on categorizing and when it comes to finding a certain movie it takes a bit of time.

I want to rip all the DVD's (Video_TS not compressed because I want all the extras) to my computer. I know this is going to take a lot of space, at least 3 terabytes, but in the long run it'll be save a lot of physical space in the house.

I know some people just convert their collection to divx and what not but I don't want to waste time converting I'd rather have the whole thing.

Anyone else feel me on this?

Nope, What Happens When Your Comp Breaks Down?
They'll all be on hard drives... and I know some of you are probably thinking about hard drive failures and what not. But periodically you'll need to optimize the drives every once and while. I'm not running shit on a Pee Cee by the way. I have a Mac.

Seriously though... I know can pull it off but Terabyte drives are still too expensive so probably later on.

Honestly, that sounds like way too much work, and a major waste of time.

I would just buy/attain some nice solid boxes that fit dvd's nicely, organize them alphabetically and store them under a bed.

Or

I would take all of the dvd's out of their cases, store the cases somewhere safely, under the stairs or some shit, and then organize the discs in cd/disc booklets.

Because even if you do rip all of the dvds and put them on an external drive, you still own the 500 dvds and their cases.

Seriously though... physical media is becoming obsolete. This is just another step in simplifying space.

I need 3 terabytes. Hopefully by next year the price for terabyte sized drives will drop dramatically.
