For me, the crazy hype and promo that "Tear Gas" had, negatively affected how I view the finished product. Shit I expected the greatest thing to come out the Bay in a decade because of all of the anticipation and hype this album got for three years. The album didn't live up to the hype. "Heart of the City" is was everything I expected it would be, that is why I prefer it over Tear Gas. Tear Gas is still a quality album, but because it didn't live up to the hype IMO, it comes off slightly worse than it is.

Jacka's album was impressive. Big Rich's album came out quietly and it seems like there wasn't much anticipation or promo for it, compared to his 1s album Fillmore Rich anyway. ( one of my faves). At first listen I didn't hear anything very stand out on HOTC that I knew I would play the fuck out of. I will give it a thorough listen before I judge though.

When first hearing Jackas Tear Gas there where songs I knew I'd be playing continuously like Heroes, Storm, Wont be Right, Glamorous Lifestyle,Dopest Forreal etc.

I voted for tha Jack...Big Rich was spittin and I always try to root 4 the home team but I think havin D-animals make most of the beats for the album hurt it. IMO they sounded like some soundtrack to a Rocky movie(same uplifty tempo and too much horn blazin). Somethin Special and You Know Me were my fav tracks so far and thank you Big Rich for havin not 1 Matt Blaque hook! LOL

But Tear Gas wasnt all that great either...G Man Stan shoulda mixed all tha tracks but I was feelin more songs of this than HOTC

Without A Doubt....The Jacka!
I went to his concert like back in August!
WTF....
So when u go to a Big Rich concert it'll be him?
LOL

Big Rich's CD had what wasn't expected from the bay: consistency throughout the songs. It's one of those types of cd's that you can sit down, listen through the whole tracklist, and get up from that same seat an hour later. I've had HOTC on daily rotation.

To tell the truth the two are so different that you can't compare them. They both stayed in their own lanes and made the music that best represented them as artist and men. I will say that they were both worth purchasing and supporting.
