so i got my first DUI, was pulled over for turning into the wrong lane, blew a .13, and have a clean record, is it worth paying the money for a lawyer? Considering i also am a college student in good academic standing, and work for a school district, is that stuff that matters and enough to get the best deal i can get from a judge with no need for a lawyer?

*also, the first cop who pulled me over initially was going to let me go as long as i left my car there and took a cab or called for a ride, and it wasn't until the sgt showed up and decided to further investigate, that i got the DUI. is this something a lawyer could work with to completely get me off the hook?

i just dont know if i should pay the money for a lawyer or just go in on my own. ive been getting mixed answers

Looks like you'll be matching your avitar there Carl LOL!!!! j/k

Naw, Mayne I don't really think it matters if it's your first DUI, or run in with the law. Point is, ya fucked up homie.

By getting a lawyer and fighting what has been proven that you were past the alcohol level plus reckless driving by turning into the wrong lane is just going to piss off the judge and may go as far as giving you a hefty sentence.

If you plead "No Contest"...

Expect somethin' hefty with fines and AAA classes and community service.

MAYBE, jail time, but not much if any.

you won't get jail time for your first offense.....and since you blew a 13 they won't be reducing charges....I say skip the lawyers fees and save the $ for your big ass fine

Yo carl, i can sympthothize with u man, i got a DUI last year. it fuckin sucks. expect to pay A LOT OF MONEY. 2 Things can happen here, 1, you get a lawyer (which is what i did), $1500, and he can get it reduced to wreckless driving, (same amount of points on ur driving record but doesnt look as bad as a DUI), 3 months of Alcohol Classes, and 3 Years Probabation. BUT U ALSO GET 2 KEEP UR LICENSE AND NOT FILE SR22 and about $3000 in school/ticket/tow fees. / # 2, u dont get a lawyer, worst case scenario u get a DUI on ur record, lose ur licence for 6 mos, probation/community service, alcohol classes, fines and hella court dates. So u make the call.

Having a lawyer makes it easier on u tho because he explains everything to u in plain english and they even go to court for u so u dont have 2, that shit can get confusing. But either way ur fucked, they dont care what u are, i was a student too, clean record, and i had a .8, i was cooperative and everything. they dont give a shit. good luck. PM me if u want the name of my lawyer, hes in oakland.

I agree. I got one back in the day, lawyer didn't help my case at all. It is what it is. Save a buck, it's your first offense, you're not going to jail that's for sure

thanks guys. im still debating cause im still getting mixed advice. part of me wonders if i should just do what some say and go in and take what the judge gives me and save the lawyer money for my fines or pay the bucks for the lawyer like fuckdemsquares and hope he does get shit reduced. im leaning more towards the lawyer cause i wanna protect my record as much as possible but i would hate to pay an xtra 1 to 2 grand for something that wont work or wasnt necessary. it seems like some ppl have good history with a lawyer and some dont so i dont know

and i was so close to getting let go by the girl cop and then the fucking sgt had to come and be a dick. drunk tank was no fun. it was funny cause at the beginning everyone was drunk and still laughing somewhat in joking mood, but as hours wore off and hang overs started kicking in, it became a funeral environment. i wasnt even that wasted though. that shit pisses me off

I got a lawyer once for an assault and battery charge and that bastard of a lawyer ended losing the case and I ended doing time in jail on top of anger management classes and a big fine.

When I got out of jail I went straight and beat the fuck out of that muthaphucka again LOL!!!!

You got a cool cop who was willing to let you go and another that was doing his job... why are you going hire a lawyer? So one guy can lose his job for being easy and leave more dick cops on the street.

You got caught up... man up and accept.

All the court wants, is for you to admit you fucked up Homie. Wether you rat out a cop, or not. It doesn't change the fact that you were driving under the influence. It may open up another can of worms against you though...

The court may say, "Oh, so this officer was going to release you." And it may...make you look alot more guilty.

Remember, you still have to hear it from the D.A. and that bitch will make your case sound worse than what it is Homie.

My friend got fucked with pills, weed, a bong, and some other shit while he was driving drunk at 16

He hired a lawyer, and got all of the charges dropped except for driving under the influence. He got 6 months probation and his license revoked for a year, but the idiot kept fucking up and ended up being on probo for a year and half and put in juvi for a short stint.

But if you're only being charged with a dui, you probably should just be as cooperative as possible. Show the judge you know you made a mistake; go to some free AA meetings, get a sponsor, and act like you're trying to clean your act up. Even if it's all for show it shows you're willing to cooperate on your part and he might go easy on you since you are already taking the steps that he would mandate you take anyways....

Maybe not, but it sure as hell couldn't hurt.

positive. unless u got charged with a DUI through the DMV, cuz remember theres 2 different courts, DMV court and Regular Court. Regular Court Gave me Wet Reckless, and DMV court set my case aside which basically means they dropped the charges. Maybe the DMV still gave u the DUI on ur driving record. u should check it out.
