I just got back from the road wit some warner artist and the trip has left me wit a bad taste in my mouth. I was previously in denial about how the rest of the country really felt about the whole hyphy movement but the denial is no more. The consensus from pretty much ny to the south and damn near everywhere else besides cali is that the whole hyphy shit is a joke. Even with the success of e40 the rest of the country views hyphy as corny and lame. From the beats to some of the slang they was straight clownin. At first I tried to defend our shit but at times found myself unable to. When I asked why some felt the way they do the number one thing they said was all the beats sound like arcade games and all the songs titles have go this, stupid, dumb, thizz, that etc... and they think this is all we are about. They especially clowned all the shabobalaboopi and yellow bus rydah shit. At first i thought they was just hatin but then when I sat back and thought about it some of the shit they was sayin was right. It seems that nowadays the only thing the bay has to offer is the hyphy music. And to me the hyphy shit is gettin worse and worse by the minute. I know we have more to offer than just hyphy but the rest of the country doesn't know that since all they see or hear is hyphy.

Dont get me wrong Im born and raised in the bay and I love it but for the last few years I aint been feelin the direction of hip hop in the bay. IMO we have severely over saturated any and every aspect of our culture and its slowly destroyin it. Believe it or not the industry has already written off the whole hyphy movement but not the bay in general. We still have listeners out there but they looking for some versatility. I hope we don't find ourselves in another late 90" fumble again and step up and make good music instead of over saturating and recylin the same shit. Just my two cents. Take if how you want. 100

**EDIT***

For all the young and illiterate that take this post out of context.
I in no way let anybody completely slander the hyphy movement and tried my hardest to let them hear some different bay music and artist to change their opinion.

agree I have never really liked the hyphy stuff but I am glad someone else now sees how other people see the bay I am in the military so I have had friends and hung out with hip hop heads from all over the south east coast and so on and they always clown and most of them cant stand e-40 the only dude from the bay I can get people to listen to and like is quinn and some of his newer radio type shit has not been so great I know the bay has some good music it just needs to get off the hyphy gimmick and step it up but hey thats IMO.

Being from the Bay I agree with that 100% percent. The whole movement itself has taken on many names but hyphy itself has evolved into something we have to come dread.

With the passing of Mac Dre the Bay has focused all attention hoping he was the last hope but we rode too hard on something and it's basically flipped on us. We need to stop going dumb and go get smart

yah well NY has the chicken noodle soup dance, and the south has got alot of crunk shit, other people do rediculous shit too cuz its all in good fun..people need to lighten up and take shit for wat it is. besides alot of the new bandwagon artists the bay still got sum hella good talent. Once sum more of our major artists get out there they'll see the bay aint no joke, whether its a hyphy artists that gets on or not, they'll see that we aint dummy retarded WE STAY HEATED Oh and they can find out about Hyphy when we kick in their windshield! I aint gonna stop liking wat i like cuz sumone else doesnt like it..now that'd be jumpin on a bandwagon

Mac Dre was the only one who could pass doing the go stupid, go dumb style... everyone else just stop. Seriously you're making yourself look stupid and you're bringing the Bay down.

I can see how other sections of the nation are like damn the bay thinks it's cool to act retarded?

We have a style that's unique but we shouldn't hop the bandwagon. Same goes for all aspiring artist thinking doing the trend will get you sales.

The thing is it's all constructive criticism and if us fans are like fuck it, then artist in-turn are saying fuck it. But if you have that big of an ego to not listen to some tough love or how others really feel then you're trapped in your little bubble.

You could be in a damn cult and be feeling everything. All I'm saying Is listen to how others see the Bay and build up on that. Take it how others see and learn off it

Even tho i love hyphy shit, and the culture that goes along with it. I Agree that people shouldnt hop on a bandwagon out of no where, if your a bay rapper and ur personality and type of music u like doing is not hyphy shit, then dont do hyphy shit. People show their full potential when they do wat they love. It will also show that the bay does alot to bring the table, not everyone loves everykind of music and with us showin all our faces it just increases our chances of being successful, Just Be U!

The best artists in the bay don't even do that generic hyphy shit. There are too many artists saturating it tho and doing the same shit over and over.

well if it wasnt for that hyphy shit, e-40 wouldve never made a comeback. at least that hyphy shit made SOME noise. but that hyphy shit isnt as hyphy as it was 2 years ago. but i think hyphy should be stricly BAY, just like that CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP should be stricly NY

Dam I been said that in this forum and I called a bunch of bitches!! But the hyphy is for the youngsta, the 40's and so and so should rep yalls player gangsta shit. See the Bay has lost what made people like me love yall, yall was gangsta, player, and had swagger before them NY niggaz new what swagger was, but it was grown up. Now u got grown men in big ass clown glasses makin silly faces dancin next to a moving vehicle with no driver...Its like some circus shit. Barnum & Baily shit. The Bay I grew up on wasnt no clowns.
