4tay is one of the greatest bay area rappers of all time and he does verses for 250-300 a pop all day long. i can name another 10 off the top of my head that will do it too. if you're serious, get at me and i'll put you in touch, but please dont waste my time if not, cause these cats do this for a living and i aint tryin to look stupid...

on another note. i urge anybody who drops a record in the bay to have a feature or 2 on their records. it helps with marketing as well as gives the record a lil more credibility. lets face it, adding a few feature aint gonna help sales that much but it will give your album some ooomph...

your best bet is to do what the gorilla pitts did... put out a really good record

i beg to differ!!!
Hes right pressplay, i have Yuk on my comp, I wont talk exact $.
But if i didnt know the people i know to get to yuk i woulda spent $3000 for 16.
You gotta understand Rappers gotta eat off doing verses, even if u do know em you gonna have to spend something.

If yuk was doing verses for $500 u think his status would be what it is now?

Its like buying a Designer shirt, Yuk gotta keep that price tag high hes like a name brand.

if u have no features on your album...good luck selling it 2 a distributer, that aint gonna happen. if u wanna showcase ur talent then do mixtapes and do shows 2 build your buzz...cause if its just you and u r a brand new act, ur shit is gonna just sit on the racks of rasputins and saeed aint never gonna re order

If you pay even a hundred dollars for a feature your payin too much. Unless whom ever you are paying for is gonna sell you a hundred records. We tried to get 40 for a remix of "like Us" I was gonna do. He wanted 4 grand. If he aint sellin me 4 thousand copies off his name alone, then he aint gettin 4 grand. On another note, my advice, everyone in the Bay needs to slow down on the features. These solo albums end up turning into compilations. If the main goal is to get a major deal some day I can gaurantee you that it will not happen off an album full of features. Labels want to hear that you can carry an album by yourself. A couple features is cool though. As long as youre not over doing it. If anyone wants Wolf verses let me know. Im Free for a 16.

It seems like people want the features to sell records, not make better music. Many will say that is how the bay got watered down the first time, becasue of the compliations with all of these features. If you are looking it from a marketing standpoint, would the money you gonna spend on a feature be wiser spent on another aspect of marketing? How much would a local TV or radio ad cost vs. another feature? As we often discuss what keeps bay music from exploding on a national level, generic features should can be added to the list, because they are not made out of bonnafide working/artistic relationships, like they make us think, people are just buying verses.

conscious daughters are my homies and in my opinion one of the best bay area groups ever. but i agree, people wanna see if you can carry an album by yourself. thas why i say if you can get a feature of two, great. but a feature on every track turns your record into a compilation. also remember one of the biggest things that sells records is..... ALBUM COVER. i know thats not what people wanna hear, but its true. they say you cant judge a book by its cover, but thats what lots of peeps do when they go to the record store and look thru the racks. so if you want an edge over the cd sittin on the shelf next to yours, you better have a dope ass album cover....

I've got one bay cat for $500 for a verse/hook/beat & talked with another for $500 for a verse... Most of kats I've talked with are from $300-$1500...

the only features I will get on my albums are from kats that I wanna work with kuz I got respect for them and I listen to them...

its a lil different formula down here in TEXAS....

cats are FINALLY gettin major DEALS after years of grindin and they have proven with their successful track record that they can carry albums by THEMSELVES...

Do you have to have many features on your album in the BAY to make it??

What happen to if your tight, then you going to SHINE, your time will come?

Z-Ro, for 95% of the time was ridin SOLO on his albums...now he got a deal with RAP-A-LOT.
He stood on his own two damn feet, like many Southern rappers and made it off of TALENT!!

I feel that if your TALENTED, fucc a feature.
YOUR TIME WILL COME.

..and that is a FACT... so many artists put blood, sweat and tears into their music and then have their homeboy slap together their album cover... wtf? Makes no sense.

When I buy cd the cover gotta look clean if it looks cheap aint getting my 10-15 bucks, but the fucked up thing is there are maybe 50 albums I don't buy because of the cover that might slap but there are album with tight covers I bought that were horrible
