You got an F+, Congratulations breh just enough to fail!

The new wideband internet has been starting up around here a couple of weeks ago. Bumped up my speeds quite a bit to. Getting about 27-30mbps. Now I'm just waiting to try out that google fiber optic we are getting before the rest of the country!

In the end you can't help but buy the service that is around you, and you usually get screwed like i assume nine2five did. Some areas only have 1-5 mbps down and can't get any better till they upgrade their servers and do maintenence. Should be soon though. The gay shit that time warner and pretty much every other internet company does is whats called a boost. It gives you about a 10 second boost of much faster speeds than what you regularly get and that is enough to trick the speed test. WACK!

Good thread!

Yeah I remember the 56K modem days. Felt great when you hit 5bkps! haha Napster was definitely the shit when it barely began, then Kazaa, Morpheus and all that shit.

Now were fucking spoiled in the broadband age. Love it! We can basically download whatever the fuck we want and if the file is wrong or fucked up, it doesn't take to much effort to try again.

I had two phone lines back in the day, one just for internet. I remember going on IRC to download mp3's on DALNet using @find to search for music. Then going in Chatrooms looking for AOLer's and using the ++ATH0 nuke on them. I think it was ATH0. For cam rips of movies I had to download before I went to sleep then by the time I would come home it would either be done or almost done.

Anyone ever use the Makaveli script for IRC? I think the dudes from hitemup.com made it.

I kinda want to try it hard wired directly into the wall, I got a wireless router with 4 computers, 2 PS3's and 2 Xbox's hooked in. Got mad bandwidth traveling through it right now and still got 6MB's. Not too shabby.

To be honest, ANY speedtest run on Comcast is kinda shenanigans because of the "burst" they have when you first start downloading. Your speed doesn't stay at that rate constantly.

The company I work for sells ADSL2+ service capable of up to 40mbps downstream and it's a dedicated line unlike cable where you're sharing with everyone else on the node. The only downside (as with all copper based internet products) is that the farther away from the nearest central office you are, the speeds decline.

Besides having our own fiber buildouts in the works, we also recently started support for Google's beta fiber project in Stanford which is already up and running. 1gbps symmetrical service. Now THAT'S ballin' lol. The only thing is that no computer (or speedtest) is capable of getting 1 gigabit so most people see around 450-500mbps.

And on the reminiscing tip, the AOL Hip-Hop room used to CRACK. That's how I met Gas One in the mid 90's lol. Making fake accounts with CC# generators and TOS progz are my biggest memory of that shit.
