I must say BAY2MI is right...there were only a hand full of artists in the Bay getting any recognition before the KYLD and KMEL battles started jumping off in late 2002. Those battles brought a whole new generation of rappers to the forefront ie: FAB, Locksmith, Clyde Carson, Killa Keise, Balance and Left (although they didnt battle but were still strong supporters) Bay Area rap fans started paying attention to the music in their own region again. It was a great time for the Bay.
On the subject of FAB...Dude is hungry, period and he dont like to lose. Shit, I remember the first time we battled at Mission Rock for a KMEL event in 2003. We went about 4 rounds and in the end I was the crowd favorite and won that night. 3 days later I was judging a battle in Pacifica on my B-Day and at about 1:00am in walks FAB. Dude walked up on stage and challenged me on the spot. We went about 3 rounds, DJ Apollo was on the beats and it was pretty even for the first 2 rounds. In the 3rd round Fabby handed me a verbal ass whoopin and in a matter of 3 days FAB got his title back. We battled again the following month for a 94.9 event and I won that one and a few weeks after that FAB got the win against me at another KMEL event. Dude is hungry, always has some shit to say and regardless of whether or not his punchlines are Locksmith status dont matter/ He is coming off top everytime. When you are that good off top then u dont ever stumble. Writtens run out eventually. I would never go into a battle based on writtens unless those were the rules and unfortunately most rap battles have come to that now a days. I say we throw a battle 2 rounds: 1st round off the head no beat, 2nd round written with no beat and a tie breaker round off the head with a beat and people throwing words out for you to incorporate into your verse. This way you get your writtens and your off top.
FUCK DUTCH!! Look what I did to his career.. A.Wolf
