Smaller sales do NOT mean that a genre of music is "over!"

shut up with that same old shit: "we need to get over ourselves this aint 94" man fuck that. too many people on here think the bay is done with. the bay is on the rise. look at all the shit comin out now and look at all the people who are on fire now cuz they just put out a tight album or has been on the radio and whatnot: done deal fam, keak, e-40, yuk, sean t, black c, jt, b-legit, messy, etc etc etc. i could go on for days. i don't know what the fuck u be listening to but you're trippin. i've said it all along something big is gonna happen for the bay and i think done deal is a pretty good canidate with the right promotion, radio play, and distribution. -Kenny
Amen. And even if the Bay doesn't blow up, remember this: any good music critic and/or REAL fans will tell you that sales alone are NEVER any indication as to whether any genre of music is "over" or not. Selling well is cool, but sales and artistry are NEVER the same thing.
There are many Bay rappers still making great MUSIC--just because everybody and their brother doesn't "know" it, and just because it's not getting played on MTV/BET or the radio does NOT mean that the Bay is "over!" It only means that it's not SELLING--not selling does NOT automatically mean that something is "over" or that it now all of a sudden "sucks"--it just means that it's not selling. If you tell Classical, Blues or Jazz fans that those forms of music are "over" just because they're not selling in the millions, you'd better say your prayers (I speak from experience on this).
Getting exposure is key, too. Why is it that only NY cats like DMX, Jay-Z, and Ja Rule are now selling big? Because THAT'S ALL THAT THE VIDEO CHANNELS ARE PLAYING nowadays. It doesn't mean that those artists are better talent-wise than those in the Bay, it's just that these artists are the only ones currently getting the EXPOSURE needed to sell, that's all.
But whatever happens, I'll continue to support Bay rap in all forms. IMHO, regardless of whether everyone else likes it or not, experiencing Bay rap is a privilege, and I don't take it for granted. Do your thing, Chuck.
PEACE!
