During a neighborhood association meeting we were debating this new store that sells pinatas and party supplies and said how cheesy it looked. This one lady said, "I thought that's what Mexican culture is about?"

Heritage? How can you be ashamed of HERITAGE? Culture, I guess one could be ashamed of certain aspects of their "culture", upbringing too.

As far as heritage, you cannot control your "heritage",,,,so being ashamed or proud of it makes no sense to me. I guess what I'm trying to say is I never understood the idea of racial pride. How can you be proud or ashamed of something you have no power over? And exactly what IS there to be proud OF?

Yeah, I don't understand why though. Maybe if their ancestors kept slaves or killed a lot of native americans , I could understand being ashamed of that ancestors' actions...but as far as the person living today being ashamed of being WHITE? Naw, there's no reason to be ashamed. Unless they see themselves being willing to partake in such shameful activities had they been alive back then.

I dunno,this is just a thought, and I'm not a psychologist, maybe that's why alot of them feel ashamed or guilty? I don't mean to insult those people who feel that way, just pointing out the flaw in their thinking they should be ashamed of being of caucasian ancestry. Most who say they are ashamed of being white claim they don't have a racist bone in their body, so it's more than likely they wouldn't have partook in those activities if that is actually the case, you understand what I'm saying?

Well the problem is that you can not be a Proud white individual because you automatically get thrown into the boat as a KKK member or any other "Hate" group. You can, however, be a proud african-american, Mexican, Boriqua, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc...

There are proud white individuals all over america. Just look into any corporate office or place where whites are in power.

The reason whites may face a stigma for shouting "white pride" or anything like that is partially due to the fact that whites have not stepped up to the plate when it comes to their involvement in things such as slavery, destruction of natives, etc.
