However, Mexico's Independence Day falls on September 16, and although Cinco de Mayo and Mexico's Independence Day are both important patriotic celebrations, their historical significance is very different. While Mexico's Independence Day celebrates the country's freedom from Spain, Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico's continued struggle to form a stable government long after declaring independence from Spanish rule in 1810

Nah, nah... Cinco De Mayo is basically the celebration of the 4000 Mexican soldiers who defeated 8000 French soldiers in Puebla, Mexico.

haha..y'all so silly yup 5 de mayo is one ironic holiday.. cuz like after the battle of puebla the french tookover.. put maximillian in place then a lil later they beheaded his ass.. i used to give lil talks on the matter (believe it or not im known as somewhat of an expert in some parts of this state) but eh happy dia de la independencia to u too..i got the pork boilin now for tamale makin ritual tomorrow.. got my flags ready to sport .sheeit i even saved fireworks from 4th of july.. all that...now if i could just find some mexicans up here.. lol..this is where i get to teach all my neighbors about that ish cuz they'll be wondering why i got a 5 foot mexican flag busted out when it aint cinco de mayo.. ***aaaahhaaaayyy haaayyyy hahahahaaaaaayyy*****

but only a few parts
the mexicans i work with said its only a big thing in Monterey i think
n americans use it as an excuse to get FUCKED UP
