...so I work at a movie theater and we have three main bosses. House manager and then two GM's. One of the GM's is a mid-late 30's white woman who is married to a black man and they have a couple kids. So anyways, we have a employee meeting every couple months, this last Saturday being the most recent one. Each manager takes time saying a few things and talking about ways they thing we can improve the theater and shit like that. So I'm sitting there half asleep (its 9am and I worked until 2am the night before) when the lady GM gets up to say her part. So she is talking about the usual shit...blah blah this, blah blah that. Then she decides to bring up about being prepared for rushes during the weekend and new releases. Now I work at a theater in downtown Seattle and our staff is very diverse ethnic wise. It's like a huge fucking melting pot and I really couldn't tell you which race is in the majority if any. All of a sudden, while talking about rushes she decideds out of the endless examples she could have used to say...
"If we are opening a horror and/or action movie that Friday, make sure to have lots of hot dogs and nachos ready because those movies bring in a big black crowd and they like their hot dogs and nachos."
Now I'm half asleep so I'm thinking, "did she really just say that?" Sure as hell she did and the place got hectic. It was like watching a trainwreck. A few co-workers said "you shouldn't have said that" and I swear I heard someone mutter "you done fucked up." A couple people just got up and left while telling her off in the process. I have no idea why she decided to use that as an example, maybe because she is married to a black man and her kids are mixed she thinks she gets a pass to say shit like that? I really dont know, all I know is she is dumb as a brick and a rep from HR is coming in on Thursday.
I just had to share that.
