I won't put any weight on HBO's bias.
The entire crew showed their Barrera favoritism.
Some other cats have mentioned the very same thing too, "just look at their faces". To that I say listen to their corners, Barrera's corner was worried half way through the fight while both Marquez and his corner were relaxed.

I just don't see how you can give Barrera so many rounds.
Unless you were giving him the rounds were he flurried at the end in order to steal the rounds.
Barrera just wasn't consistant enough.
Marquez was the aggressor, and he was just more hungry.

*edit*
I thought it was funny how Ledderman scored round 11 for Barrera.
As if he was trying to secure a Barrera victory lol

I don't know how some of you kittens think Pacquiao can easily beat Marquez when he couldn't even finish him off in the first round of their fight.
Marquez went on to dominate Pacquiao for 11 rounds, now Pacquiao's supposed to come in and wipe the floor with him in a rematch?
Dream on.... Every man has his nemesis and Marquez has Pacquiao's number!

If you disagree, I have $1000 on Marquez....
I would actually have to say that JMM won 7 of those rounds, clearly. 3-6, 9, and 11 & 12. The others were very tough to score. And with this I actually had Pacquiao winning by a very small margin ( 113-12 ) But that doesn't mean much.

Marquez has lost a step since they fought 3 years ago, is not as fast as he was, maybe a bit stronger tho. And it seems as if his ability to take a punch has diminished as well. He's one of the best counter punchers in boxing pound for pound and also one of my favorites. But I feel like he will have a much harder time this time around, as he fought a Pacquiao who was a one trick pony at the time.

Pacquiao was a brawler, and depended on one punch to win him fights. Now he is a much better boxer, and is able to utilize his right hand, which he didn't do much of at all, until very recently. He is able to cut the ring off, and has very good counter punching skills of his own ( See the 3rd fight with Morales ? ) Couple this with Pac's aggression, and its a very tall order for Marquez.

I'd love to see this fight though, I just hope that it can make it through all of the politics going on with Top Rank and GBP.

Yeah some people managed to score a few other rounds for Pacquiao.
Either way, take away the disasterous first round to which Marquez fell to a 3 to 4 point deficit and the fight is almost an easy win for Marquez.

You make some valid points, while I agree that Marquez has lost a step and Pacquiao has added the right cross to his arsenal; I don't think that will be enough. Still, you're not one of those who thinks a Pacquiao VS Marquez is a lock for Pacquiao. I agree that it will be a tougher fight for Marquez but it's still a bad match up of styles for Pacquiao. He uses his right more often but I don't think he's mastered it as to suggest that it will work against Marquez's longer and educated left jab.
I don't see any improvement in Pacquiao's footwork at all.
Where we disagree is mainly how we see Pacquiao's victories over Morales.
I don't put too much stock on Pacquiao's victories because Morales isn't the same fighter he was when he beat him the first time (imo).

I just want to see Marquez in there against Pacquiao again.
I don't think it will be too difficult to make the fight.
After all, Pacquiao is set to fight his first fight under Bob Arum already. If there were any solid contract disputes between Top Rank and GBP, Pacquiao wouldn't be fighting at all.
Arum is willing to make the fight happen, Pacquiao wants it. Marquez wants it and even De La Hoya suggested it as a possible future fight. I think the main obstacle right now is Barrera. Marco might want the rematch to happen first....

i just watched the fight and i must say that it was an evenly matched battle. the two fighters had a lot of heart and showed off their skills. i would love to see these combatants go toe to toe once again. it was filled with excitement building round to round. i agree with the outcome but i also would have been content with a draw. however the scoring by the judges was completely off. judges paul smith and patricia j. had it:116-111; and doug tucker had it 118-109(i think he was playing with his nintendo ds during the middle of the fight). i believe the margin was much closer than what the "judges" called it. i say they go once again in a few months. marquez won this battle, but hopefully this isnt the end of the war.

Again, I think the outcome was correct, but the scores were horrible.

Something to think about: I believe that if the judges were in fact watching the same fight as everyone else, the only reasoning I can come up with for the scores is the fact that Marquez, normally a counter puncher, was the aggressor most of the fight, whereas Barerra is normally the one pushing the fight. Barerra was backpeddling most of the fight, and that could be a reason for some of the scores (which I still think were bad).

Anyways, bring on the rematch!

Damn good fight. Anyone see it? What you think about the outcome or the knockdown (or no knock down) followed by the point deduction?

Marquez-Barrera pulls in $10.1 million in TV revenue

uan Manuel Marquez's stirring junior lightweight championship victory last Saturday night against Marco Antonio Barrera generated 225,000 pay-per-view buys and $10.1 million in television revenue, according to figures released by HBO PPV.

The total is expected to rise slightly once all cable system numbers are fully reported, according to HBO PPV.

Facing his Mexican countryman in a long-anticipated bout, Marquez won the 130-pound title via unanimous decision in an action-packed fight at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

"We were pleased with the pay-per-view performance of Barrera-Marquez," HBO PPV's Mark Taffet told ESPN.com. "But even more importantly, we're thrilled that these two great Mexican warriors gave their fans such a great performance in the ring. It proves, once again, that when the best fight the best, there are no losers."

HBO will replay the bout Saturday night at 9:45 ET/PT along with same-day taped coverage from Copenhagen, Denmark, of Mikkel Kessler's super middleweight title defense against Librado Andrade.

The Marquez-Barrera subscription total fell right in line with projections, which were based on comparisons to similar fights involving pay-per-view stalwart Barrera.

It performed better than the 165,000 PPV buys Barrera produced in his rematch with Rocky Juarez, a lesser-known opponent, in September, but it fell short of the 310,000 buys generated by Barrera's rubber match with Mexican rival Erik Morales in November 2004 and the 296,000 achieved by Barrera-Morales II in June 2002.

Barrera's best pay-per-view performance -- 310,000 -- came in his upset victory against Naseem Hamed in April 2001.

A rematch between Marquez (47-3-1, 35 KOs) and Barrera (63-5, 42 KOs), who are both promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, is being discussed for Sept. 15, although the bigger fight for Marquez would be a rematch with division star Manny Pacquiao, with whom he fought to a draw in a blistering featherweight championship fight in April 2004.

However, that fight is difficult to make because of the friction between Golden Boy and Top Rank, which is promoting Pacquiao. Golden Boy and Top Rank are in litigation over Pacquiao's promotional rights.
