Messy Marv - Turf Politics and Still Explosive
San Quinn - The Mighty Quinn and Repossessions
Young Jayda - Nonfiktion
JT the Bigga Figga - Hustle Relentless and Something Crucial
and how about this old release I have all the Get Low old classic stuff but is this worth picking up???
D Moe - Do You Feel Me
What's up? All of the CDs you listed have something to recommend them. But here are my personal opinions:
MESSY MARV--I love STILL EXPLOSIVE! You can bump it from start to finish and not skip any tracks! Messy gets creative on stories ("Hold Me Down"), can fight when he has to ("Make It Crack Then", "I'm A Soldier Boy") and even when he slows it down ("Nubian Queen"), he stays real. TURF POLITICS is basically good, but it's too short--only eleven songs! Luckily, the songs are decent-to-slammin' (especially "Hoe 4 Me", Who Whudda Known" and the title track). It's worth getting, but because it's so short, you might want to buy it used. I'd get STILL EXPLOSIVE first.
SAN QUINN--THE MIGHTY QUINN is more mainstream production-wise then his GLP work, but lyrically Quinn is still on point. You may have to let it grow on you, but once it does, you're hooked. REPOSSESSIONS is tracks Quinn made for compilations (most now out of print). The only ones that didn't move me were the two "new" tracks at the end. REPOSSESSIONS may be historically more valuable, since it collects many harder-to-find Quinn songs, so I'd get that first (but don't sleep on THE MIGHTY QUINN).
JT THE BIGGA FIGGA--SOMETHING CRUCIAL and HUSTLE RELENTLESS are two of the better recent Get Low releases. JT's flow is basically intact--his voice may even sound a little rougher than before. SOMETHING CRUCIAL is more polished production-wise, but HUSTLE RELENTLESS has a grittier, basement-like sound, with its' Sean T-produced songs. Both are dope, but I'd give the nod to HUSTLE RELENTLESS, which is more-or-less street-oriented from beginning to end. Dope as it generally is, SOMETHING CRUCIAL has two attempts at R&B-type songs that don't quite come off ("Too Fly For Me", "Feddi Can't Buy You Love"), IMHO.
As for D-MOE's "Do You Feel Me?" If you like old school GLP, you'll like this, too. 'Nuff said. I can't speak for the YOUNG JAYDA CD, but maybe someone else here can tell you if it's worth getting. PEACE!
