SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday showed off what drug agents took in Gilroy in the largest seizure of methamphetamine in United States history.
More than 600 pounds of pure crystal meth was laid out on tables, along with 15 pounds of cocaine. The meth alone has a street value of $200 million.
The drugs were seized Thursday at a drug lab in a home in a remote area of Gilroy.
The lab is part of a Mexican drug cartel, and was being run by associates in Sacramento. Officials said the case began in Sacramento with some drug arrests two years ago.
It was believed to be the prime hub of meth production and distribution for the entire Central Valley, authorities said.
Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinnis said the bust likely saved lives.
McGinnis said looking at it in terms of potential for death and destruction and harm to the environment and loss of life, there are so many people represented by the product not being on the streets.
It took a year of investigation for a task force of local, state and federal agents to make the bust.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Lt. Fred Links said he has never seen a more workable relationship in the past eight to 10 years than the one with the agencies involved.

McGinnis said it was a very complex and time-consuming investigation led by Sacramento County sheriff's investigators, who kicked off the undercover operation by making a street buy of meth in Sacramento more than a year ago. He said investigators realized there was something bigger in the works.
The intelligence that was gathered led them to the Gilroy drug lab where police first arrested three Mexican nationals. By the next morning, seven were in custody awaiting trial in federal court. One person remains on the run.
The Mexican nationals face life in prison if found guilty.
While law enforcement called it a disruption of a major drug operation in the U.S., they said there is still more that need to be broken up.
The investigation is ongoing.

Half of me is glad that poison is off the street. Other half is disappointed that sum one mostlikley snitched. Cops don't make any kind of bust without a snitch. .. lazy bastards. .....
Meth has a snitching additive in it or something, anyone who touches the stuff is 100 times more likely to snitch than even a crackhead. That's actually pathetic when crackheads are by and large more solid than you....

Real Talk - Its like they think they're gonna get some if they tell. Crackheads are way more solid , same w/ a hop head .
