Armed Gang Hits Swiss Casino For Thousands
An armed gang has stolen hundreds of thousands of francs from a Swiss casino during a raid, reports say.
About 10 men dressed in black and wearing masks stormed the Grand Casino near Basel while 600 guests were inside.
One gang member used a sledgehammer to smash through the front door, allowing the other men armed with machine guns and pistols to run inside.
Police said the group spoke French and ordered guests and employees onto the floor as they emptied registers in the building's basement.
The men could not breach the casino's strongroom, however, despite shooting at the locked door.
Swiss authorities said they managed to bag "several hundreds of thousands" of francs before escaping in two silver Audis with French number plates.
Some guests and a security guard received treatment for minor injuries after the men fled.
The Grand Casino is located a mere 200 metres from Switzerland's border with France.
Earlier this month, an armed gang made off with 240,000 euros (£215,000) after raiding a poker tournament at a Berlin hotel.
German authorities have since arrested five suspects.

Dramatic footage has been released showing the moment armed robbers stormed a million-euro poker tournament in Berlin.
Gamblers ducked under tables at the city's Grand Hyatt Hotel as the five raiders burst in, armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles, grenades and machetes.
The thieves made off with 800,000 euros (about £719,000) in the pandemonium, according to local media reports.
Police said seven people were slightly hurt in the raid, while the robbers lost a large part of their takings in a scuffle during their chaotic escape attempts.
German tennis ace Boris Becker was among 400 people taking part in the five-day tournament, but had been eliminated before the robbers broke in.
Not to be deterred, the competition resumed a few hours later.
Interviewed in the Tagesspiegel daily, the security guard who managed to grab a bag full of money from the robbers said: "I just wanted to protect the money.
"You don't think of anything in that situation, just your duty."
He said the attack had happened while two of his colleagues were away on a break, "which suggests the thieves planned the attack very precisely".
