right now, there's no possible way turiaf or mbenga could be a better option than gasol at C.

and even after bynum comes back i just really don't see how the lineup would be better without gasol in it.

THIS IS A GREAT MOVE FOR THE LAKERS....THERE IS NO WAY THAT ADDING GASOL IS A BAD THING...HE AVERAGING LIKE 18 PTS A GAME...KWAME WAS A SERIOUS LIABLITY , HAD THE WORST HANDS IVE EVER SEEN ON A BIG MAN , NO CONFIDENCE , BASICALLY THE LAKERS PICKED UP A ALL STAR AND DIDNT GIVE UP NOTHING.....

They might start him until Bynum gets back, but when Bynum gets back, Gasol MIGHT end up being the 6th man in favor of Walton. That's instant, versatile big man points off of the bench. Not many teams have that, if any. Plus you can't play him many minutes because he needs a backiotomy.

Starters

Fisher
Bryant
Walton
Odom
Bynum

Think from a basketball perspective and not on a name recognition perspective.

Walton is a complementary player which is what you need in a system like the triangle. Luke Walton is the perfect fit in the starting lineup because of his understanding of and ability to run the triangle offense. Gasol isn't a complementary player, he's an individualistic (potential superstar) player.
I agree with this post. When Bynum gets back, Gasol may come off the bench.

That starting line-up looks right, with us subbing Gasol in for Odom or Bynum...and just wait till Ariza gets back.

I DONT SEE WALTON STARTING OVER GASOL........BUT EITHER WAY THE LAKERS WILL BE EXTREMELY DEEP WHEN THEY GET BYNUM AND ARIZA BOTH BACK.....NOT TO MENTION CHRIS MIHMS.......

Pau Gasol potentially disrupting chemistry due to injury would be more disappointing than Kwame Brown because of the expectations that are being set now that he's a Laker.

Nobody ever expected Kwame Brown to amount to anything or contribute anything other than a big body.

And if you truly believe Pau Gasol should start (when Bynum gets back assuming there are no more injuries) just because he's Pau Gasol, then I question your basketball IQ.

I see the starting lineup, once Gasol has 'settled in' and Bynum back, as this:

Fisher
Bryant
Odom
Gasol
Bynum

I can see starting Walton, and in any other situation, I would. But you just traded for a superstar (to some people) player who can shoot, rebound, dribble, pass, defend...at 7'' tall. Walton off the bench will be fine; he's done it before.
