That's pretty much cuz the chargers are a relatively new team
Na man the Chargers have been around for almost 50 years! In San Diego since 1961.

It's b/c a large chunk of the Steelers large fanbase is illegitimate. If you want to root for a winner, the best way is to pick one.

Is there a statistic for most fans who have never actually watched an NFL game? Cuz I swear, Mexicans root for the Raiders by default 90% of the time, yet a lot of them never in their lives watch football.
One of my best friends, Mexican dude from La Junta, Colorado who is a big Broncos fan, would always complain to me that most of other Mexicans in his state roll with the Raiders and not the Broncos.

And I believe in '05 and '06 the NFL aired a somewhat generic commercial that was all about NFL Team car accessories, and in that commercial they did depict various themes with teams (i.e. I think the Dallas Cowboys fans had a pickup truck), but for the Raiders it showed a bunch of Latinos in a low rider that was hopping up and down. This buddy of mine would always scream at the tv and claim that was racist but he was laughing his ass off at the same time.

Nationwide Steeler Fans

and krazee, u wouldnt really see that on the west coast though...
Wrong, I attended a Steelers' game in Seattle back in 2003 and the Terrible Towels took over the stadium! That's when we had a bad year with Tommy Maddox at QB and we still barely lost that game. It was beautiful to see all the Black & Gold that swarmed throughout the seats. Yes, we do travel well and there is several different reasons why teams like the Steelers and Packers have fans everywhere! A lot of folks relocated due to loss of jobs, economy, etc. One example is when they closed all the Steel Mills down in Pittsburgh. In my case, there is a lot of family history going back to my grandfather born and bread in Western Pennsylvania. My uncle knows Chuck Noll and I was given a lot of Steelers souvenirs from the 70's & 80's when I was a child. So if that's what some of you consider being an illegitimate fan, then I guess I'd be a bandwagon fan for over 25 years now! I Bleed Black & Gold 4 Life!!!!

GO STEELERS!!!

The majority of the Mexicans I know (including me), root for the Chargers and Padres. The rest are either LA Raider fans or just str8 up paisa.

If your a true local, born and raised in SD, I don't understand why one would root for the Raiders.
