I like that perlite is inert and I use A LOT just for porosity. Seems to be much cheaper and more readily available than other substitutes. Plus it holds more water but not as much as vermiculite.

Next go I'll be adding glacial rock dust, green sand, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, cottonseed meal, maybe lava rock and more. I just wanna keep a compost full of the best mix of everything from seaweed and shrimp shit to egg shells and banana peels.
