I've been wanting to hit Australia for years and live there for a year or two. Seems like getting a work visa for there as an America over the age of 30 is fucking rough.
It's the same this way too. I think securing a job here is the first step. Alternatively you could work for a multinational in the US with offices in Oz, they do exchanges that way too and because of the reciprocal trade, the movement of employees in and out is a lot faster and easier.

America fucked it's citizens by locking itself up so much. Other countries are like "oh, you want to make it hard for us? We'll make it hard as fuck for you". Meanwhile Europeans, Australians, Canadians, South Americans, and Asians pretty much have free rein on most of the world, with year long temp visas that Americans usually can't get.

We have Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) for 90 days travel for US citizens coming to oz. Pretty easy to get!

Currently our currency against yours is at it's weakest, 100 usd buys 150 aud pretty much :/
