The Vikings just held a press conference to announce the signing of fullback Thomas Tapeh.

Bernard Berrian was not in attendance, but vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman confirmed that the Chicago Bears' free-agent wide receiver is in the Twin Cities

“He’s in town," Spielman said. "He is in town and Madieu (Williams) is also in town.”

Williams, a safety from the Cincinnati Bengals, agreed to terms earlier today on a six-year, $33 million contract.

It's not known where negotiations stand with Berrian, but Spielman said no more signings would be announced until at least Saturday.

“We go through a process of physicals and everything like that," he said, "and then they’ll be in the building tomorrow.”

Jaguars sign WR Porter

The Jaguars bolstered their receiving corps on Friday as they signed former Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter to a six-year, $30 million deal that includes $10 million worth of guaranteed money.

The Jaguars also have signed free-agent quarterback Cleo Lemon to a three-year contract worth just under $9 million.

Parcells wasting no time Miami

After a busy morning of making deals, the Dolphins signed free-agent QB Josh McCown, who started nine games for the Raiders last year, to a two-year deal, $6.25 million contract Friday afternoon. He could start in Week 1 for Miami.

Miami also signed former Jacksonville free-agent wide receiver Ernest Wilford to a four-year, $13 million contract that included a $6 million signing bonus and another $1 million escalator.

The Miami Dolphins stormed out of the free-agent gate early Friday, adding yet another young player. The Dolphins reached agreement with former Tennessee defensive tackle Randy Starks on a five-year, $21 million contract that includes $7 million worth of guaranteed money. The best part of Starks might be his upside. He is only 24 years old.

The Dolphins also have reached agreement on a trade with the Dallas Cowboys that would reunite DT Jason Ferguson with Parcells and give Miami a new starting defensive tackle tandem for the coming season.

Additionally, the Dolphins signed former Jets tight end Sean Ryan to a one-year deal and were expecting a visit from Arizona linebacker Calvin Pace.

SIX YEARS, $57 MILLION FOR SAMUEL

He wanted $10 million per year. In the end, $9.5 million will have to be enough.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network and John Clayton of ESPN.com, cornerback Asante Samuel has signed a six-year, $57 million deal to join the Eagles.

Per Schefter, the deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money and pays out $32 million over the first three years.

The guaranteed money is less than the amount paid to Nate Clements of the Niners in 2007, but the average is higher. Clements' deal is for seven years, $64 million.

The New York Jets and guard Alan Faneca have agreed in principle to a four-year, $32 million deal that includes roughly $23 million in guarantees, ESPN's Michael Smith reports. Faneca is expected to travel to New York this weekend when the deal will be finalized. The Jets are planning on playing Faneca at left guard.

'HAWKS HAULING IN ALGE?

After flirting with teams in Tampa and Tennessee, former Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler could be re-joining his former head coach.

Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Crumpler is close to signing with the Seahawks. He would provide a significant upgrade at a tight end position that has underachieved of late.

Jerramy Stevens couldn't consistently catch in 2006 and previously, and Marcus Pollard was a little over the hill in 2007.

TRIPPLETT TERMINATION CLEARING SPACE FOR STROUD?

In 2006, the Bills signed defensive tackle Larry Tripplett to a five-year deal. Today, Tripplett got dumped.

The move might have something to do with the fact that the Bills are courting Marcus Stroud, a Pro Bowler who has received permission from the Jags to shop himself to other teams.

If other deals are any indication, Stroud can be had for a three and a five.

Interesting situation with moss

he wasnt able to make any deals or even talk with team including patriots until he officially a free agent due to a weird thing in his contract, he's prolly working out a deal with pats as we speak, hopefully it will be good so he stays

yeah i never even seen that he was signed so i figured i missed but he is meeting with him

ESPN's John Clayton reports the Patriots are not close to a deal with free agent Randy Moss.

Clayton says Moss is willing to listen to other teams' offers. Moss, 31, probably won't get a six- or seven-year deal, but could become the NFL's highest paid receiver annually on a shorter-term contract if he wants.

BROWNS COULD STILL TRADE ANDERSON
Throughout the afternoon, we were flooded with e-mails from folks peddling rumors that the Browns might have signed quarterback Derek Anderson to a three-year contract merely in advance of trading him.

Our first reaction was that the Browns wouldn't want to make a huge bonus payment to Anderson and then trade him and an incur a huge cap hit. But then it occurred to us that maybe the trigger date for the first payment is far enough into the future (for example, one or two weeks) to gives the Browns an opportunity to move him.

It wouldn't be definitive proof that there will be a trade; it would merely be evidence that a trade could happen. And we've learned that the first payment is due to Anderson . . . in April.

Again, this doesn't mean that he'll be traded. But unless and until that big payment is made there will be a window of opportunity for the Browns to move him. Stay tuned
