I remember when bay area rappers/MC's used to do it for the love of music..now a days it's for the love of money...

early today i was thinking to myself..what if those rappers would do it for the love of music once again...like in the 90's ...i remember the rappers would put some good quality shit that would make you wanna buy their 2nd and 3rd cd...now a days..u don't even wanna buy the 1st one...

sup widdit tho..who's gonna be the 1st bay area artist to do it once again in 2007 for the love of music and not money....

It's for the love of music money....

As far as artists doing it "for the love" that shit is over because the artists now resent the fact that the consumers steal from them every chance they get in the form of downloading and bootlegging.

What you're asking is for someone to (again) put a lot of time and effort into something, poor their heart out, waste an investors money, for some good music so that you (the consumer) can get it without them (the artist) being compensated for it.

Get ... da ... fuck ... outta ... here...

Who said "everyone" or "everybody"? Not me...

Obviously it's enough of a problem where you have the industry looking into technologies to prevent it from happening.

Obviously it's enough of a problem when you have divisions like Sony Urban folding (Sony calls it restructuring) and countless others that we don't know about yet.

Sales are down.

A lot of industry execs are now switching from the term 'music content' to describe their product to 'music based content' to describe their product. Music based content including web sites, videogames, ringtones, etc...

A lot of this stuff is the behind the scenes shit that goes on that eventually impacts the CDs that hit the market. Business priorities have to shift because of declining sales due to downloading.

As far as the bay is concerned, we're the technological capitol so you're going to have a higher percentage of downloaders here than anywhere else.

That's like saying, "I'm not a racist. I have a whole bunch of black friends."

And your attitude (and others like yours) is the one that wants what he wants (good music) but regardless of what you're saying here on a message board will download that shit and not care. But now you want it to be about the "art"

As long as you get yours right?? :ermm:

See, people download music and that is a hard fact and it hurts artist pockets. On big problem with most artist now dayz is that they dont put out quality music. Who wants to pay for some shit that you can almost bet your life on will b light weight horrible. Back in the day rock stars and hip hop musicians got paid off touring and performing. Look at Tech9ne...he is setting a perfect example. He's and underground artist that puts out nuthing but quality music and he is constantly on tour. You have to develope a solid fan base and most of these artist dont have the talent or the will to do what it takes to make that happen. Most will just ride whatever train is going up at the time. I've been disapointed at the state of hip hop for a good minute now. It sux, because i love the art so much.

the wack shit took over well before downloading became so widespread...

weak releases were already the majority around 98-99...
