my friend came with me to the beach today....he's black and wore shoes...i was like dude why are you gonna wear shoes to the beach?....he didnt even bring trunks to get in the water (which was really nice today..like 70 degrees)

so my question is this: why do black people (and a lot of hood type mexicans. tj mexicans are down to rock the flops) never wear flip flops? is it cause they don't like nautical shit? which raises another question...if you grew up in southern cali, no matter what your race, what is the reason to not like the beach? and im not talking about go to the beach to bonfire bullshit...but i mean like getting in the water and swimming and shit. if lil wayne starts reppin body surfing and wearing flip flops is that all it will take for black people to start experimenting with the ocean? not that i think its a bad thing, just a sociological curiosity.

and for the record, i dont ever really wear flip flops, except for the beach. if i ever wore flip flops with jeans i would feel awkward like some whitey magee...but whats your guys' take on this?

I dont like the beach. I could count the times I been to the beach, outside of a bonfire in SF, on one hand. And everytime Ive been, Ive been in regular sneakers. Whenever I been on a boat, or to a lake, Ive gotten 'water shoes'. I said it before and Ill keep saying it, aside from bathing and a few other rare/specific circumstances, there is no reason for a man to be seen barefoot, and in public there is no excuse.

lol @ no man should be seen barefoot. your born barefoot. you wear shoes/sox to bed or around your house? i dont wear flip flops (i call them sandals) unless im going to the beach or on a boat or unless i gotta run somewhere and pick something up and dont feel like putting socks and shoes on. but i dont wear them around for more then 10-20 mins if i do.

and whats wrong with sandal pants? lol

i got caught in a rip current once and that ended my fiddle-faddling in the beach water/ocean.

as far as walking on or in the beach. i dont like sand. ive done it, but if i do it, im on two or three possible four

it took me a year or so to buy flip flops after i moved near the beach but yeah i keep a pair, but for things like when im at other peoples houses, i like to have flip flops that are new for they carpet or house
