The following post is a truthfil business analysis dealling in facts. If you are a consumer/super fan you may want toskip this post because the facts will go over your head. First let me say the Im a fan of E-40 and i respect all that he's done. i must say i do not see him blowing up big. let me state the facts. for one he is an OLD artist. literally and in terms of being in the game.. He's like 39/40 with an 18yrold son. its hard to re market a guy that has already been on the scene. The executives who push the buttons at TV and Radio view him as a has been. For example everyone from Jay-Z on down respects Kool G Rap, but no one is trying to put chips behind him. He is a vet who still can spit, but he is like 40 in that they had their glory ing the 90's.
Hyphy Movement
E-40 is not the one to usher in the hyphy movement. There needs to be some fresh new faces who have not blown up and then deflated on a national level. Forty was known for Captain Save Em and sprinkle me,Players Ball. The suits still have that perception. Its a big jump for him now to be dooing this hyphy music. Imagine if Busta Rhymes would come out on some straight G sht like C-BO. No one would care to hear it comeing from Busta.
SELFISH
its selfish for E-40 to still be be trying to Blow up again. He had his time and he didi it good in the 90's. He reminds me of another Bay legend who just couldn't let it go (Jerry Rice). True Rice could still run and catch but it ws time to step aside and let a young player shine. Some will say 40 is rich has mansions, franchises. Which is true. just like Rice is rich and has stats and records, but it was still time to hang it up. If 40 really wanted to helpf the movement he would endorse a young artist and put all his energy behind him or her. When the East Coastr came back big 98-2001 it wasn't with Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, etc. even though those guys can still spit. The movement consisted of young fresh talent like Jadakiss, lox, Fabolous, Ja Rule, Beanie etc.
i will always love and respect 40 for what he has brought to the game. i wish him success. It looks like he will do the same amt of units he's been doing his first week. His top radio markets are all in Cali, then hawaii. If his first single does not pop, he only gets one more crack befor Warner cuts their losses and moves on to the next project. If it doesn't pop he has no one but himself to blame.
I hope 40 defies the odds and becomes the second early 90's rapper to come back like Twista.
Notice how when Houston blew up, it was alll Frsh new faces, not The Geto Boys.
