It took jurors less than an hour to convict 35-year-old Mark Jones of felonious assault for a vicious beating inside an Akron, Ohio, pizza parlor.
A key piece of evidence was the store's security video, which showed the entire conflict unfold. The tape has no sound, but here are the details of what transpired:
"It may take a little longer for our pizza," Joseph Scarpino told his fiancé on his cell phone when Prestina Sims cut in line at the downtown pizza parlor.
An infuriated Sims began a long tirade at Scarpino that included every imaginable expletive. She even spat at a manager who tried to kick her out.
That's when her 6'4", 295-pound boyfriend Mark Jones went to work on Scarpino, landing at least seven blows as onlookers watched, doing nothing. When it was over, Jones rolled Scarpino over and retrieved a cell phone he dropped in the beating.
Even then, other customers did little to help as Scarpino nursed a broken nose and eye socket, concussion and chipped tooth.
Mark Jones was sentenced to four years in prison, and Prestina Sims goes to trial on March 16th.
