You tripping about conscious rap not having much of an audience on the "#1 gangsta rap source" is like me posting livewire on a conscious forum and tripping when no one is feeling it really. You would have a better chance on the general hip hop section, except most of the regulars there just like mainstream bullshit most of the time.

About your original post tho, I agree. Technology has been taking away from the human experience since the car and telephone went global. It's been getting out of hand since these "social" networking sites started up.

maybe you have a point about this site being focused on gangsta rap.

i don't know even the phrase gangsta rap is kinda stupid.

i remember tupac said in an interview nah im not a gangsta rapper. im a rapper. they don't call deniro and them gangsta actors. he made a good point in that interview.

i think hip hop is hip hop whether it's conscious, gangsta, whatever.

unfortunately, you're kinda alone in that thought. Especially on this website. People categorize rap and for good reason. Hip hop tends to be more lyrical and has an east coast sound. Rap is more west coast and down south and definitely less conscious than "hip hop." You likely already know this but you can't get frustrated about it when you should know better

to me hip hop is the four elements that include b-boying, graff, emceeing, and djing.

when people try to use it as a category of rap i don't agree and im not forced to agree.

I consider rap hip hop, but the biggest contribution to the artform that california has made has been the "gangsta rap" sub-category. It's more about style and content tho, not really location. Check out Serum from Florida, pure "hip hop" even tho he's from the "dirty south".

lol @ this turning into a hip hop discussion

I've thought about this topic a lot and have settled on the belief that Hip Hop is both the name of the culture and lifestyle that encompasses rap, and all of its sub-genres (hangsta, hardcore, nerd, horrorcore, etc.) And it is rap music that focuses on hip hop themes: love, unity, havin a good time, b-boying, graff writing, etc. Think about it early hip hop was like mainstream rap now, brag about how dope you are, and how the parties crackin, and the B-boys on the floor, graff writers posted yada, yada. Also, they said hip hop a lot in their songs like early rock (rock N' roll) and early punk rock shouted out their genres. So I think it's both rap music about hip hop themes and the name of the culture. But hip hop also has diff. Music genres as well, not just rap.

so you consider hiero and andre 3000 rap? i strongly disagree.
they're the exception, not the rule. Come on dog. You seriously think I categorize them in the same group as lil scrappy, lil jon or paul wall? There are obvious exceptions.

Those exceptions extend beyond any boundary. There is the hip hop culture altogether like was just mentioned. There are extentions of that which are gangsta, krunk, trip hop even. Those are forms or extentions of hip hop. It's not that you can't be talking about the streets and still be hip hop, far from it but there's a line to be drawn somewhere. When you have 1 song that's socially conscious and the rest is pointless gangsta music, you're basically a gangsta rapper, not a hip hop artist to me. I'm not alone in that thought.

Some stores even have them in 2 different sections: hip hop/rap. If I was alone in that thought, I wouldn't have seen this in many different music stores on the east and west coasts and oklahoma. Not everyone thinks this way, but a lot of people do

I can see this point being made but then there are a lot of emcee's that refuse to call themselves rappers. They say they don't make rap music, they make hip hop music. So call it what you want.

I think it depends a lot on how you use the technology.

I must admit I'm looking down in my phone too often sometimes even though I can be annoyed as fuck when other people do it when I'm trying to have a conversation with them.

But the same technology has improved my English spelling and learned me all sorts of new things, it's a way to explore new interests one might acquire down the road of ones live.
The same technology helps me to debate, talk about subjects with people who grew up in different countries/environments etc. This way it's possible to get a total different conclusion when for example I would have the same discussion with people who are local from here.

There are so many advantages if used correctly, but I can see it 'dumbing down' entire generations if being used incorrectly.

One thing I see, is that it's going to totally warp the next generation because they do stuff like play xbox or ps3 online. Don't have face to face interaction with people. Not the end of the world BUT, the way people talk on those. Blatantly racist/sexist things and generally nerdy talk. Plus the internet. People don't talk like they do in message boards/chat rooms in public like they do online. PEople can be whomever they want online. That will likely warp the next generation. That's why 90's babies are stupid

technology is great for communication and business but when one stops using a phone for calls(texting all the time like 16 year old girls while driving) yeah shit is overboard. but the way our society is now, can you blame people for not wanting to interact with humans face to face. people would rather meet others through facebook etc.. because everyone is online and thats the IN thing, so talking to people in person is too OLD fashion

Yeah I think it's crazy. I mean even people I know in person. And especially girls always ask guys they know in person.. if they have a facebook?

I think the reason for it, is so they can see who is friends with who, if they guy talks to other women on there.. it's a way to keep tabs on someone I think...
And that's not really a good thing.

Facebook is really boring, and I hate twitter...
I only like to read them when my fav artists post they have a new song etc..
but to hear someone say I just ate a fucking turkey club.. is a waste of time!

I hated the concept of twitter and still pretty much do. The only things I really consider looking for on there are boxing commentary or news that is short and to the point or comedians have funny one liners sometimes. That's about it.

Facebook is stupid. The siccness is one thing where a people talk a bunch of crap to people they don't know. I don't really know anyone that posts on the siccness but I had homeboys that would talk crap to other people that were actual friends of mine they just hadn't met on facebook so you're jammed up in the middle of bullcrap. You kinda find out who people are on facebook or myspace. Sad to say, I ditched a lot of friends behind some of that stuff. We're not in 8th grade anymore

Yes, I totally believe technology is fucking up people's social skills. Here are some examples:

You invite people to a party, but they don't R.S.V.P., whether you invite them by a traditional paper invitation or by talking to them. They never confirm because they're looking for the next best thing. So they have their cell phones with them the entire time waiting for something else to come up when a week ago you invited them over for a get-together.

Let's just say they do make it to the get-together. They can't start and/or maintain a conversation with anyone because their whole world revolves around their cell phone, Facebook, etc. You ask them what their hobbies and interests are and they can't even tell you. So they go hide in a corner with their cell phone text messaging with people that aren't even there.

You go out to a restaurant and see a family sitting near you. All of the kids have some kind of video game or IPod in their hands. I remember going out to restaurants as a kid and coloring on the provided kid's menu and solving the puzzles or talking with people. Maybe playing some arcade games at a pizza restaurant if they had any.

You don't see kids outside anymore because they're all inside online or playing video games. Whatever happened to going over to someone's house and asking them to come out and play a game? Kids have no creativity.

People looking to date don't meet others in person anymore. All of that is done online. I don't really see too much wrong with that because you probably won't meet a suitable person for a relationship at a bar, but since people have no social skills, they are pretty much limited to online dating.

The only thing that matters in people's lives now are cell phones. People will have a cell phone with all of the amenities, but no job. People need to get their priorities straight.
