I leave my doors open all the time and I have no fenced yared and guess what...they go outside..handle thier business chase some virds and squirrels, and come back in when they are ready...lol..they could eaisly leave if they wanted tooo...also....dogs not"domesticated" like you said dig in trash bins and what not for food..it's not like most go hungry and starve...the ones that starve have owners that don't feed them....

My dog relies on me throwing a soccer ball so she can run after it more than food.
She wont even eat if i dont kick it with her. but if i go sit down near her food or something she'll eat because i'm sort of suggesting it.
I'm the only one in the house that can brush the dogs teeth or do vetinary type shit (clean the ears, etc) without her running away or trying to get out of the persons hands.
i actually have to go to the vet to help the vet out with his job because she will not stay still unless im around.
so yeah, im gonna say my dog does in some ways, love me. if not respect, or some sort of deep friendship.
if i take too long in the shower she'll start whimpering.
some dogs die if theyre disconnected from the owner, of sadness.
birds do, as well.
so its deeper than the 'food' deal.

Cats are better then dogs imo. people dont care for them because they cant be controlled like a dog can. They are very good pets. I would rather have a cat. A cat isnt going to take your shit. I would rather have a cat all day. I like dogs, but Iam never home to take care of one. I just like cats better. But hey to each his own.
i feel ya i had a boxer a couple years ago i had to give to a friend, anyways i went to phoenix for a week and had him stay with my friend, everything was cool until i went back to work the next day. when i came home he had chewed a hole in one armrest of my sectional and the whole front of the other one was completely torn off, he was pissed, i guess he thought i had left him again.
