Okay so in november, i sold 1 of my cars to a random dude down in visalia, but i had a ticket on it for it being on the street without being registered (registration had expired). So i sold it about 2 weeks after getting the ticket, and went down to their shithole police station, with the release of liability filled out, and they said i needed to have the renewed registration papers in my hand, but the car was no longer in my ownership/possession, i sent the release of liability form in way back then, and i just recieved a notice with a 300$ fine on it, for the car, or 10$ with proof of correction, would any1 know what would be "proof of correction"? if the vehicle is no longer mine?

7.) How do I obtain proof of correction?

Corrections for most mechanical violations can be inspected by the Sheriff, California Highway Patrol, the Department of Motor Vehicles, or other approved law enforcement agencies. You must also pay a $10 transaction fee per Vehicle Code section 40611(a).

Proof of correction by an authorized law enforcement agency is to include:

· Inspecting officer's signature and printed name

· Badge number

· Registration and License Violations

· Submit the proof of correction by having the police officer inspect your

vehicle and validate your ticket.

If you were cited with a registration violation and have proof of valid registration from the DMV, you may submit a copy of your registration with the appropriate bail to the Court. If you cannot provide proof for the vehicle cited, you will be required to pay the bail associated with that violation or appear in court.
Some violations, including, but not limited to, sections 12500, 14601, and 23109 of the vehicle Code may require a mandatory court appearance. Contact the Court for further information

Basically you're assed out. Your shit wasn't registered the time you got your ticket and you neglected to get the car registered and now its no longer in your ownership. Pay the $300 and keep it moving because there is no way you can show proof of registration now. I'm assuming that $300 is the bail amount.

Fuck the dmv they are not too helpful when it comes to stuff like this, go to the court where you can pay the ticket and just tell them the situation, they might ask you to write a letter to the judge, I drove a car with expired registration, no front plate, and tinted windows, and I could not clear none of this shit because the car was not mine, so the clerk at the court told me to write a letter to the judge about the situation. The ticket was for over $700 but the judge understood I guess and I only paid some $10 fee...... good luck

What's wrong with you Chree? If the car was in your name when you got the ticket you should be responsible for paying the ticket/fine. I could be wrong but since you were the registered owner at the time it was parked on the street with expired tags you shoud have to pay even though you sold the car. The random dude wasn't the registered owner when the car was ticketed.

lol it was actually parked in my driveway, and i went to pull a couch out the garage, and put my car on the street so i could fit a big truck in the driveway and i went inside, came out and a bitch ass cop wrote a ticket, i didnt Register it cuz i had blew the engine and was gonna sell it for parts, but dude bought it and was gonna throw his engine in the car. So it was pointless to spend 250$ on the registration, then sell it for parts for 300-500$

Got it. I think you could of had it registered as Non Op and I don't think the cop would/could/should have given you a ticket...but damn the car was in your driveway and he still gave you a ticket?

just go to court and tell the judge that you don't have the car anymore and that you sold it and its registered to someone else now. I'm almost sure that the judge will lower the fine way down. Don't get a failure to appear on it though because it will cost you a lot more so just go handle it at court. Unfortunately this is coming from someone who has been in court way too many times.
