oscar made sum serious bank from the fight.............Oscar De La Hoya's fight with Ricardo Mayorga on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, televised by HBO Pay Per View, generated 865,000 buys and $43.8 million in revenue, HBO said.
A pay-per-view fight has not done as well since De La Hoya last fought 20 months ago. His September 2004 bout with Bernard Hopkins generated 1 million buys and $56 million.
De La Hoya, 33, has been a participant in the top five most-viewed non-heavyweight pay-per-view fights. The record is 1.4 million buys for De La Hoya-Felix Trinidad in September 1999. No. 2 is the September 2003 rematch with Shane Mosley with 950,000 buys. Next is the 935,000 buys for the Fernando Vargas fight in September 2002.
De La Hoya, who was guaranteed $8 million for the fight, received a percentage of the buys over 600,000, which brought his share of the purse to more than $20 million, sources said.
