If he plays up to his potential, we'll have some serious trade bait in him.
Playing up to his potential for 3 years means 3 years of great contribution (which only helps our team) and high trade value (which will also help our team).
If he comes in, gives it his all and doesn't become a team distraction............
Owens, Johnson and Marshall are all team distractions. This is the base of my statement. If Crabass is holding out for more money which he wants and takes a lesser amount because he knows he`ll only make his situation worse, do you honestly think he is going to be "happy" to be signed to the 49ers? I highly doubt it.
I also doubt that he`ll come right into the league being a dick. That part may take some time for him to establish himself, or he could very well do a Keyshon from the gate. Only time will tell that. My point is, I believe that if he signs, he`ll be another malcontent that we don`t need.
The part about the trade value would work if we had a different GM. Not this one. When all indications pointed to the 49ers releasing Alex Smith, instead they restructure his contract to keep him in SF. That was largely due to the GM`s infatuation with his busted draft pick. If they do get Crabtree to sign, I highly doubt the GM would try to trade him, instead try to prove we made a great pick.
And if Crabtree starts acting an ass by year 3 because he has a breakout year in year 2, how many people do you think will line up to trade for another team cancer? How many people do you think are calling Denver or Cinci trying to see if they can get those players from them? I don`t think many if any at all. And if they do, it`s not for the value the team would like to see.
