Marketing agent Mike Ornstein says he has made NFL receiver Michael Crabtree enough money in endorsement deals that the still-unsigned first-round draft pick won't be pressured to play football for a while. "He has made over 750 grand in marketing dollars," Ornstein said. Crabtree was selected No. 10 overall by the San Francisco 49ers but has not come to terms with the team on a new contract. "It is not that he doesn't want to play, but he is not under the gun to," Ornstein said

i do payroll for a living so lets work this out a bit. ok lets say 800000...right off top he is taxed 25% fed 9.3% state (bonus tax which endoresment would be) 6.2% fica and 1.45% medi thats

800000 - 200000.00 - 49600.00 - 11600.00 - 74400.00 = $464400.00

Thats before all his agents, and advisors. I would imagine low end lets say 20% for them...again thats low end..and that comes off the 800000 so thats another 160000.00

464400.00 - 160000.00 = 304400.00

im not in cali but I know he doesnt live in a small house so im sure he put at least 100000 down I would imagine, what about taxes on thata s well, call that another 125000.00 he is now down to 179400.00

so he must be dricing a fairly decent car? maybe say 50000 plus taxes and tage on that another say 5000 drops him to 120000.00 range....... doesnt account for daily living either. Yep he doesnt need to hurry to get signed.

well texas is a no state taxes state so thats good for him, but a million dollar house down payment and taxes on that must be a bith and even more then the 9.3% I said for cali state anyways.

is Crabtree gonna be able to re-enter the draft, no penalty or nothing? I still wonder if not being fully healthy having something to do with it.

the penalty is dropping from 1st round to 3rd or later because noone while want to touch him..just think of all that lost money between a 1st (top 10)and 3rd round contract

shit investing right now wouldnt even be a smart move. and judging by his actions im guessing he isnt smart enough for investing and if he did invest theres more off top for his accountants, dealers etc...


damn I didnt even think accountants, lawyer etc either. My guess is half the siccness is sitting in a better financial spot then crabtree is right now

If Crabtree signs after this season with the 49ers or with another team that trades for his rights, he will be paid the minimum base salary for rookies -- $320,000 next season -- and have the bulk of his money paid in Not Likely To Be Earned incentives, which is the way teams guarantee most money to rookies these days. Those incentives won't be achieved, however, until the 2010 season has ended and won't be paid out until the next league year in 2011. Thus, Crabtree might have to wait until 2011 to cash in.

However, there is a chance there could be a work stoppage in 2011. So it also is possible -- although no one can say how likely -- that if Crabtree re-enters the NFL draft in 2010, he would not collect the bulk of the money on his first NFL contract until 2012. Signing with the 49ers now would land Crabtree an immediate bonus and allow him to trigger the Not Likely To Be Earned incentives by the end of the 2009 season, enabling him to be paid in 2010. This is why some pundits have predicted Crabtree will sign on or before Nov. 17, the last day he can sign to still play this season.
But these are all parts of the gamble each side is taking by not consummating a contract. The 49ers don't get their standout wide receiver, and the standout wide receiver doesn't get paid for 18 to 30 months."

ummm not just less, ALOT less, for example, I think niners are offering about $25 mil with $16 mil guarenteed...Hakeem nicks later first round was total of about 12.5 mill with under 5 mil guarnteed.
