in some some cases, if a word is used in a context by enough people for a long enough time, it'll be entered into a 'respectable' dictionary.

I don't, however, think this is one of those cases simply because the way the word sounds when you put -ed on it.

Present indicative, yes. In the same way you would say, "I run" or "I wash laundry" (not in response to a question....but describing what you're doing right now). Nobody talks like that. Nobody even writes like that.

"I texted my friend this morning"....."I will text you later"...."I was texting my friends"....."I text all the time".....no way around it. Full blown verb status. "Text message" is redundant, the same way "e-mail message" is redundant.

And I agree with the 'text', -ing, -ed philosophy. If we are going to use it as a verb, it should have common conjugation.

BUT, my friend pointed out that you don't say 'I hurted myself' yesterday, so some words don't particularly break donw the same.
