The Cincinnati Bengals have cut Chris Henry from the team after the wide receiver was arrested on assault and criminal damaging charges. Henry allegedly attacked another man at a party Monday night.
According to a police report, Henry got into a fight outside a party on Ohio Avenue in Clifton Heights Monday night. 18 year old Gregory Meyer claims someone threw a bottle at his car window outside the apartment complex. He says he confronted the suspect and was punched in the face. Police say someone inside the party identified the attacker as Chris Henry. Henry surrendered last night after an arrest warrant was issued.
Bengals president Mike Brown issued the following statement this morning: "Chris Henry has forfeited his opportunity to pursue a career with the Bengals. His conduct can no longer be tolerated. The Bengals tried for an extended period of time to support Chris and his potentially bright career. We had hoped to guide him toward an appropriate standard of personal responsibility that this community would support and that would allow him to play in the NFL. We acknowledge those fans who had concerns about Chris; at the same time we tried to help a young man. "But those efforts end today, as we move on with what is best for our team."
Henry was suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for the first half of last season for repeatedly violating the league's conduct policy.
Henry is expected to be arraigned this afternoon. He will remain behind bars until a judge sets his bond. Local 12 will be in court, and we'll post any new information here as soon as it is available
