what is the most important thing about the manual? and what does vol. 2 most def need to have? what are chapters i should speak on in detail?
I think Volume 2 should be refined and crafted more precisely, still allowing and keeping in mind the capability of being able to "apply" the information/knowledge provided into universal situations. That's what I like about this manual, that's definitely the most important aspect.
There are several topics that can be grouped and put together as one and broken down into sections. Then again, there are so many topics that need to be covered, it may be too much, you could go one step ahead and break it into three manuals if you wanted.
Personal Aspect; history, vision, ideas, motivation, applying yourself, doing it for yourself, avoiding doubt, preparation, planning, developing, opportunity knocking, taking advantage of your talent and putting it to hard work, dedication, reaching success, having the right state of mind, and tips to do so, etc.
Business Aspect; researching, designing and implementing a solid business plan, starting a record label, publishing company or production company, whatever it may be. Being your own boss, being independant and smart with your money, the structure between being indie and striving towards major, team building, networking, collaborating, investing, marketing, distribution of product/services, collecting/recieving, financing, making transactions and as many ways to get paid as possible, importance of meetings and what doors a successful "meeting" can open, negotiating, decision making, closing deals, bartering/swapping/trading, etc.
Legal Aspect; which goes hand in hand with the business aspect, including; legalities, contracts, partnership agreements, legal representation, registering your business/company/group, copyrighting your product, whether it be a simple composition/beat, or piece of music, to a single track, or an entire album, or catalogue. Obtaining and enforcing your copyright. Exclusive rights, licensing, credits, registering with ascap/bmi, what points are, how they work, what defines them, percentages, how an artist under a label gets paid, things to avoid, things to take advantage of, etc.
You can go on and on, but I think for future volumes, is to boil down the essentials and keep it basic and applicable.
Peace.
