DENVER – Denver Nuggets All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Monday morning, hours after scoring 11 points in a Nuggets win.
9NEWS has learned Anthony was cited after being given a series of sobriety tests at 4 a.m. He was pulled over on southbound Interstate 25 at 20th Street. Anthony then submitted to a blood test, the results of which will not be available for about two weeks, according to police.
The 23-year-old NBA star, who was alone in the car at the time, was pulled over because he failed to drive in a single lane and for not dimming his lights, police say.
The arrest came hours after the Nuggets defeated the Houston Rockets 111-94 to inch closer to a playoff berth. Anthony struggled in the contest making only three of the 14 shots he took.
Denver Nuggets Vice President of Basketball Operations Mark Warkentien issued the following statement today:
"We are aware of the situation involving Carmelo Anthony. We are currently gathering information and we will have no further comment at this time."
