Bush's Erratic Behavior Worries White House Aides

President George W. Bush’s increasingly erratic behavior and wide mood swings has the halls of the West Wing buzzing lately as aides privately express growing concern over their leader’s state of mind.

In meetings with top aides and administration officials, the President goes from quoting the Bible in one breath to obscene tantrums against the media, Democrats and others that he classifies as “enemies of the state.”

Worried White House aides paint a portrait of a man on the edge, increasingly wary of those who disagree with him and paranoid of a public that no longer trusts his policies in Iraq or at home.

“It reminds me of the Nixon days,” says a longtime GOP political consultant with contacts in the White House. “Everybody is an enemy; everybody is out to get him. That’s the mood over there.”

In interviews with a number of White House staffers who were willing to talk off the record, a picture of an administration under siege has emerged, led by a man who declares his decisions to be “God’s will” and then tells aides to “fuck over” anyone they consider to be an opponent of the administration.

“We’re at war, there’s no doubt about it. What I don’t know anymore is just who the enemy might be,” says one troubled White House aide. “We seem to spend more time trying to destroy John Kerry than al Qaeda and our enemies list just keeps growing and growing.”

Aides say the President gets “hung up on minor details,” micromanaging to the extreme while ignoring the bigger picture. He will spend hours personally reviewing and approving every attack ad against his Democratic opponent and then kiss off a meeting on economic issues.

“This is what is killing us on Iraq,” one aide says. “We lost focus. The President got hung up on the weapons of mass destruction and an unproven link to al Qaeda. We could have found other justifiable reasons for the war but the President insisted the focus stay on those two, tenuous items.”

Aides who raise questions quickly find themselves shut out of access to the President or other top advisors. Among top officials, Bush’s inner circle is shrinking. Secretary of State Colin Powell has fallen out of favor because of his growing doubts about the administration’s war against Iraq.

The President's abrupt dismissal of CIA Directory George Tenet Wednesday night is, aides say, an example of how he works.

"Tenet wanted to quit last year but the President got his back up and wouldn't hear of it," says an aide. "That would have been the opportune time to make a change, not in the middle of an election campaign but when the director challenged the President during the meeting Wednesday, the President cut him off by saying 'that's it George. I cannot abide disloyalty. I want your resignation and I want it now."

Tenet was allowed to resign "voluntarily" and Bush informed his shocked staff of the decision Thursday morning. One aide says the President actually described the decision as "God's will."

God may also be the reason Attorney General John Ashcroft, the administration’s lightning rod because of his questionable actions that critics argue threatens freedoms granted by the Constitution, remains part of the power elite. West Wing staffers call Bush and Ashcroft “the Blues Brothers” because “they’re on a mission from God.”

“The Attorney General is tight with the President because of religion,” says one aide. “They both believe any action is justifiable in the name of God.”

But the President who says he rules at the behest of God can also tongue-lash those he perceives as disloyal, calling them “fucking assholes” in front of other staff, berating one cabinet official in front of others and labeling anyone who disagrees with him “unpatriotic” or “anti-American.”

“The mood here is that we’re under siege, there’s no doubt about it,” says one troubled aide who admits he is looking for work elsewhere. “In this administration, you don’t have to wear a turban or speak Farsi to be an enemy of the United States. All you have to do is disagree with the President.”

The White House did not respond to requests for comment on the record.

Here's the source:
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0604-13.htm
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/dtbio.asp - about the author

It seems kind of Newsmax'ish.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was true though, but I won't believe it until I see a better source.

To those that have a hard time believing that Bush use "bad" words :

"Fuck Saddam. We're taking him out."
-George W. Bush, March 2002, as reported in Time.

"You no-good fucking son of a bitch, I will never fucking forget what you wrote."
-George W. Bush, to journalist Al Hunt in front of his 4-year old daugher, 1987 as reported by Tucker Carlson.

"Pussy."
-George W. Bush, 1988 Convention, in response to a question about what he and his father are talking about when they're not talking politics. (I've got to give him props for this one)

And then we have the infamous :
"There's Adam Clymer, major league asshole from The New York Times."

War Crimes? LOL you must be out of your mind. The U.N. is bullshit, Hell we are the fucking U.N. U think that we should actaully listen to these fucks at the U.N.? After they have been exposed with the oil-for-food program? As far as I am concerned the U.N.'s word is worth garbage. Iraq has been known in the past to have access to WMD and there's no reason to believe that they still didnt. We can and WILL find WMD before we leave Iraq. Oh and your so called "war crimes" Whos gonna come here and take Bush? Are they gonna invade us? Who? France, Germany? Fuck what they think, they were agaisnt this one war for one sole purpose, They knew the U.S.A. was gonna fuck up there agreement with Iraq. Russia,France,Germany and Saudi Arabia were the bigest players in the curropt oil-for-food program. Thats why they opposed this war. Sadaam was a manic, he killed his own people. Even if he did disarm all his WMD (which he did not) he still was a large threat to America, the ideal of peace, and the promotion of capitalism.

DAMN I ALMOST FORGOT, WHO GIVES A FUCC ABOUT ALL THESE OTHER COUNTRIES IN WORLD. AMERICA IS THE JUDGE THE ENTIRE WORLD, WE'RE DEFINATELY THE STRONGEST AND RICHEST SO FUCC THEM... HOW SILLY OF ME

Iraq has been known in the past to have access to WMD and there's no reason to believe that they still didnt. We can and WILL find WMD before we leave Iraq.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT ONE'S PAST DETERMINED THEIR FUTURE...HERE'S REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY WMD... BECAUSE THERE WERE NO EVIDENCE OF NONE!!!

JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN'T COME HERE AND INVADE THE US THAT DOESN'T MAKE BUSHS ACTIONS "WAR CRIMES"???? I DON'T UNDERSTAND.. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE SAYIN' THAT IT'S OKAY TO COMMIT CRIMES IF YOU GOT THE MUSCLE BEHIND YOU.. WHICH MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL... UNFORTUNATELY THAT'S THE WAY WE WORK HERE IN AMERICA, BUT TRUST ME, IF ANOTHA LEADER OF A DIFFERENT COUNTRY DONE THAT SHIT HE WOULD BE ON TRIAL. BELIEVE THAT.

DAYTON, THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THERE ARE NO WMD... AT LEAST NONE HAVE BEEN RECOVERED... WHICH MAKES THIS WAR FUTILE. GIVIN' THE FACT THAT'S WHY WE WENT TO WAR IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHEN NO WEAPONS WERE DISCOVERED ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE REASON WAS TO "LIBERATE" THE IRAQ PEOPLE.. ALOT OF COUNTRIES CONSIDER AMERICA A LARGE THREAT BUT THAT DOESN'T CONSTITUTE A REASON TO INVADE OUR COUNTRY. BUT I GUESS IT'S OK FOR US..

The U.N. is a corrupt organization full of socialist countrys one step away from communism. Right now there is a strong movement of people who dont like/hate America. 40% of Canada's youth (14 to 18) think America is an evil country. So of course there gonna condemn our actions in Iraq.

If someone rapes a person, theres a good chance there gonna try and do it again when they get out. Are we suppose to have a short term memory and be friendly with a manic dictator? Lets put it this way: If a man rapes your daughter, are u gonna let him move in with you when he gets out?

Why shouldnt it be like that now, it has been for some time. Who ever has the most muscle or whoever wins the war gets to be the judge. When a coalition of American/Russian forces took over Berlin 1,000's of German women were raped, nothing was done about this. Whoever loses the war will be subject the other country's rule, such as France after WWI taking major amounts of land from Germany, which in return was a cause for the most bloodiest war ever WWII. But of course only Germans were tried for war crimes. War Crimes are a stupid idea, war is war there shouldnt be any rules.

Dont worry we will find some WMD then u can sit and swirl. Even if they didnt have WMD Bush had just cause to take a manic out of power. Yes alot of country's do consider us a threat, but none have the means to sustain a large scale invasion, so instead they fight a cowardly war and attack our civilians. So intel we take these men out of power, you will continue to see us taking an active role in policing the world.

DAYTON YOUR ONLY ARGUMENT IS BASED ON THE FACT THAT WE ARE AMERICA AND WE CAN DO WHAT THE FUCC WE WANNA DO. I'M SORRY TO RAIN ON YOUR PARADE BUT AMERICA ISN'T THE JUDGE AND JURY OF THE WORLD. JUST CAUSE WE ARE THE STRONGEST COUNTRY DOESN'T MEAN WE HAVE TO ABUSE OUR POWER.

WHO GIVES A FUCC ABOUT HIS PAST OR A RAPISTS PAST?? THE POINT IS IF THEY DON'T COMMIT THA CRIME AGAIN THEY SHOULDN'T BE PUNISHED JUST OFF THE FACT OF SUSPICION. THAT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN TURN YOUR BACC ON THEM EITHER.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Torture equipment used by Saddam Hussein's (search) slain son, Odai, to punish underperforming Iraqi athletes was displayed Saturday at a Baghdad sports stadium in advance of the opening of the Olympics next month in Athens.

Journalists were shown medieval-style torture equipment, including an "iron maiden-like" casket with metal spikes fixed to the inside that athletes had been forced into and chain whips with steel barbs the size of tennis balls attached to the end.

"During the old regime, Odai was looking for results and he wanted winners. He didn't like second place," Talib Mutan, an Iraqi Olympics Committee (search) official, told Associated Press Television News.

"If the athletes didn't come in first, they were punished. And he would punish the people around the athletes, their managers and coaches included," Mutan said.

Odai, who ran the Olympic committee while his father ruled Iraq, and his younger brother Qusai were killed in a fierce gunbattle with U.S. forces a year ago in the northern city of Mosul.

Mutan said athletes who earned Odai's wrath were tortured in various ways, through beatings, sleep deprivation and being forced to walk barefoot over hot asphalt during Iraq's searing summer.

The official said suggestions had been made to display the torture equipment in a museum, but there had been no final decision.

The International Olympic Committee (search) reinstated Iraq's national Olympic committee in February after it was suspended following the fall of Saddam's regime in 2003, enabling Iraqi athletes to compete at this year's Summer Games.
