The Miami Dolphins have reached a contract agreement with Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long and will select him with the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday's draft, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The announcement will come at a 1:45 p.m. news conference.

Despite speculation that Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells really had planned to select Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston or Virginia defensive end Chris Long, sources told ESPN's Michael Smith that since the Dolphins opened negotiations with Jake Long they were talking to him exclusively.

Long, a 6-foot-7, 313-pound senior who moved to left tackle in 2006 and started his final 26 games, was an All-America selection and Big Ten lineman of the year in each of his last two seasons.

Offensive line is considered the biggest need for the Dolphins, who went 1-15 last year.

Not a bad pick for them.... so my guess is that Dorsey will go number 2 to the Rams and Atlanta will go with a qb Matt Ryan. Which leaves the Raiders with a choice of Chris Long, Darren McFadden, or Sedrick Ellis. I say we get Ellis.

I think it's an excellent pick for them; there's about 7 guys that would be great picks for them...LOL. Same with us; fortunately (or unfortunately), we let 3 teams pick in front, so they can take away some options. LOL

I think Dorsey is going to be incredible for a long time...I may be wrong, but his skill level is great, his heart is huge, and he has a great love for the game. Ryan...I dunno, he's a solid QB, great accuracy, very intelligent, not very mobile...but neither is Rothlesburger, and he's no bust. I just don't know if he's worth the third pick in the draft, when you have plenty of other needs that could be taken care of with a player who, IMO, would be more of a 'sure thing' (IMO) than Ryan.

So if it does go in that order, who do we take? If we could take McFadden and drop or trade (yeah, right) Jordan, I'd be for it, maybe. Also...picking up Rhodes has turned into a bad move, IMO...but he may get more reps this year.

I don't see them drafting Chris Long...and what about Gholston? I like his instincts, his size, his strength, but don't know if I'd take him above any listed, although he'll be an asset for a long time to a team.

That's the problem, though; with so many holes and needs, you have to pick and choose between best option/biggest need...and sometimes you can't just pick the best overall player, which we may have the chance to do with McFadden.

Oh well, should be very interesting.

i cant believe some people hav matt going so high......ok best qb in the draft but this is the worst class of qbs i have EVER seen....i doubted matt goes top ten even though i doublt b-more will let him pass em....i dunno...matt to atlanta is the biggest reach in the draft i could ever remember..

Cleveland's pick of Thomas out of Wisconsin seems to have helped them quite a bit too. Seems like quality O-linemen like this are the best bet in the draft these days. The high profile QB's, WR's, DB's almost never live up to the hype anymore.

Sounds like a good choice.

I would think from Miami's stand point though, if this info is true, that it isn't the best. Seems like you would want to keep people guessing in the draft.

I think St. Louis will take Chris Long instead of Dorsey, they love both Long's, but I could see them take Dorsey. If I were the Raiders and they are looking at Chris Long or Darren McFadden, I would take Long. You can always find a Running back in the later rounds, but DE's are hard to find. I mean after the Bears got rid of Richard Dent, the Bears had NO pash rush for years, plus the Raiders have some good backs in Fargas, Jordan and Bush, if healthy. In the secound round, Raiders should consider Sam Baker from SC, they got to improve that line, and Baker is someone I hope drops to the Bears in the second round. They can't go wrong with Long or McFadden, but I think they need a D-Lineman more than a RB. Another smart move would be for Oakland to trade the pick to say N.O. who is looking to get in the top 5, pick up a couple of extra picks. I can't fucking wait for the draft!!!!!

That sounds pretty good^^ The Raiders could use an extra pick or two but they don't want to fall too far down or else they won't have a shot at one of the top D-linemen in the draft. If I was Al Davis I would select Sedrick Ellis. He's a bit stronger than Dorsey and may be a bit healthier.

True, Ellis is a stud, but I think Dorsey and C. Long are slightly better at this point, but you never know, Dorsey did have injury problems last year.
