Golovkin-Jacobs on The Verge of Being Ordered? - Boxing News

Pretty soon, things will change. The next mega-fight is Canelo vs GGG and every SB wants a piece of the pie. If GGG vs Jacobs does end up happening, I do see Canelo GGG happening in late 2016, early 2017 like I predicted before.
Not going to end up happening, not anytime soon anyways. For one, Golovkin is under contract with HBO and it would be crazy to think Haymon would immediately put Jacobs on a rival network after the biggest win of his career rather than building him up more with the PBC brand. But even if we put that aside, if it goes to a purse bid, per WBA rules Golovkin would get 75% of the purse because he's the "super champion" and Jacobs 25% because he's just the "regular champion" (challenger). After what Jacobs said, you think he's going to fight for 25%? Yeah right.

An interesting strategy though by K2 and HBO is to allow Golovkin to fight off network. Let it go to a purse bid. Haymon bids some crazy number and wins, Golovkin gets 75% of that crazy number, fights Jacobs on whatever PBC network they want, Golovkin wins and then goes back home to HBO. HBO and K2 wouldn't have to pay a dime, they get Golovkin more exposure at the expense of Haymon and have a bigger fight on HBO after. I doubt HBO would see it that way though.

Although I understand and agree with mostly everything that you said, letting go of GGG for a fight with Jacobs is something they must do to make the mega fight much more mega-er. When Lomechenko lost, HBO let him go to Showtime to fight GR Jr and Loma won. Now HBO and TR have the champ in Loma that they wanted. The ppv with GGG was poorly promoted and they need other ways to hype up GGG a lil more. A win over Jacobs would be HUGE for GGG. By next year he will be the super duper champ at 160 and will just need what Canelo has, which should be easy for him. Maybe the new exec at HBO is willing to put up a "PBC" ppv?

I don't think Loma had an exclusive contract with HBO at that time.Pretty sure he got a contract after winning that fight.

What do you mean by PBC PPV? I don't think any of those guys at or around middleweight are PPV material, certainly not Jacobs (maybe he could be in the future but it would take time).

Wilder's fighting Artur Szpilka. Not a bad fight at all and way better than most of the guys mentioned. Wilder likely smokes him but it's at least a guy with some good wins.
Yeah best of the bunch probably. I hear from Polish people Szpilka is a giant douchebag, I've heard him referred to as the Polish Adrien Broner haha.

Wilder vs Martin next year for the IBF, I bet. I guess that's cool if it leads to a Fury vs Wilder unification.

World heavyweight champion Fury stripped of IBF title
Reuters By Martyn Herman

LONDON (Reuters) - World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's uncle and trainer says the decision to strip the British fighter of one of his three titles is "absolutely scandalous".

The 27-year-old title holder, whose comments about homosexuality and women have provoked almost as many headlines as his feats inside the ring, was relieved of his IBF belt after agreeing to a contracted rematch with the Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko instead of fighting the IBF's mandatory challenger.

The IBF explained its decision to strip Fury of their title on Wednesday, saying the rematch was "in direct violation of an IBF rule".

Ukraine's Vyacheslav Glazkov was the number one contender for the IBF title and should have been Fury's next opponent -- the U.S. based organization said.

"Following the title fight between Klitschko and Fury, the IBF became aware for the first time that there was a contractual agreement between both fighters for an immediate rematch," it said.

"There were no provisions for any rematch in the contracts which were submitted to the IBF prior to the IBF agreeing to sanction the Klitschko vs. Fury bout."

In an interview in Boxing News, trainer Peter Fury said: "It's absolutely scandalous. I've not spoken to Tyson yet but we're dealing with it.

"But we've got a rematch that we're tied to. We have to take that fight. A fight of this magnitude, the IBF should only be too happy to be involved in such a megafight."

Fury, who still holds the WBA and WBO versions of the title, has been shortlisted for the BBC's prestigious Sports Personality of the Year award -- a move widely criticized after his controversial comments on a range of topics.

An online petition calling on the BBC to deselect him because of comments widely seen as homophobic has now gathered close to 100,000 signatures.

On Wednesday Britain's Sports Journalist's Association (SJA) said it had withdrawn its invitation to Tyson Fury to attend next week's British Sports Awards.

"The decision was made as a consequence of threats made by Fury against at least one sports journalist, an SJA member, who has written about the boxer's repugnant comments on homosexuality and women," the SJA said in a statement.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Wednesday that they had received a report of "hate crime" in connection with comments made by Fury on a BBC program.

Responding to the latest controversies on Twitter, Fury said on Wednesday: "Freedom of speech is the biggest load of Shite ever, if the WBA&WBO&IBO want to strip me go ahead."

American Deontay Wilder holds the WBC belt.

Timothy Bradley prefers to fight Miguel Cotto over Manny Pacquiao. I believe that fight gets him murdered. Cotto punches way too hard

Francisco Vargas refused the rematch with Takashi Miura!
Miura might move up 135lb or eye Uchiyama‘s WBA belt!

Dan Rafael chat wrap 12/11:

- The holdup with announcing Pacquiao's next fight is either: Pacquiao has not decided, or there is a holdup in signing the opponent to a contract. There is no conversations between Pacquiao and Floyd. Doubtful Khan is in the running.
- He is told that it is because Pacquiao cannot make up his mind between Bradley and Crawford.
- Has heard the rumors that Bradley prefers to fight Cotto rather than Pacquiao. Doubts it is likely. Promotional issues and lack of money (Cotto vs. Bradley is a bad PPV) likely will make the fight hard to make.
- The Pacquiao fight will be in Vegas.
- GGG and Canelo are working on a deal with the WBC today. Suspects that Canelo will be allowed an interim and parameters for a GGG-Canelo fight to take place.
- If GGG and Canelo fight, not sure if it takes place at 155, but doubts it takes place at 160.
- Most likely scenario is that GGG fights his mandatory Tureano Johnson in February.
- Would like to see GGG fight Jacobs, but it is not likely.
- There will be a purse bid for Glazkov vs. Martin. The belt has value, so one of Haymon's promoters and definitely Main Events will bid.
- The move makes sense for Glazkov. The fight is easier than fighting Wilder, no options to be given, good money, and if he wins there is more money defending the title.
- NBC's card is weak. Figueroa vs. DeMarco was originally supposed to be an undercard.
- Szpilka is a step up in opponent from Molina for Wilder, but still nothing special.
- Donaire should win tonight and there will not be a Rigo match. No one is really asking for it and no one wants to buy it.
- RJJ should KO Enzo. Also may determine who has the worst chin in boxing.
- Any progress on Rigo vs. Loma? After Rigo's performance on the Cotto PPV, this fight is very unlikely. He is unwatchable television.
- Luke Campbell can be a player in the lightweight division. He is talented and the division is fairly weak.
- Arreola fights are interesting because they are trainwreck slobber knockers.
- ODH and Arum are talking about Sadam Ali vs. Jessie Vargas early next year.
- Parker is his number 2 HW prospect behind Joshua. He has good power, speed, and size. Has been told he is a hard worker and Klitschko had him in camp and raved about him.
- Andre Ward is still elite...he just needs to fight.
- The Lee vs. Saunders winner will likely be in high demand for GGG, Jacobs, and Canelo. Likely who offers the best deal gets the fight.
- PBC makes weird matchups that often make no sense and don't tell an interesting story. PBC stated they were going to put on good matches, so far they rarely do that.
- The Quillin loss was a huge step back. Referee made the right call to stop the fight.
- Nothing new on Pritchard Colon.
- A future Walters vs. Gamboa fight is possible. HBO wants the fight.
- The Fury vs. Klitschko upset probably ranks top 10 all time (upsets).
- Only news he has heard regarding Badou Jack is some JCC talks.
- Word is that Broner vs. Theophane is set for January in Atlanta. Horrible fight.
- Linares vs. Dejan is close to being set. Good fight.
- Not sure what Khan is doing other than wasting his career. He needs to make the Brook fight.
- Possible that Brook may take his mandatoring, Bizier.
- Garcia vs. Guerrero is not horrible, just disappointing.
- Suspects the tournament to get Floyd's belt will be an 8 man tournament (Garcia and Guerrero are two).
- Not against a Cotto vs. Canelo rematch, but prefers not to see it.
- Arum has mentioned Postol and Matthysse as opponents for Crawford.
- If Tyson vs. Douglas had an immediate rematch who would he have picked? Tyson.
- A Gonzalez vs. Estrada rematch is most likely to happen in the summer, not in Gonzalez's fight in February.
- Nietes has been mentioned as a future Gonzalez opponent.
- Margarito is not proven to have cheated vs. Cotto, but it is highly suspected. He believes he did cheat and did so other times as well.
- Garcia vs. Khan 2 is not a PPV worthy fight.
- Still hearing that Thurman vs. Porter is possible for February on Showtime.
- Espinoza's rationale for PBC showing fights that would have been on Showtime on free TV is that it would be free exposure for Showtime fights. It is not working well for Showtime.
- Abraham is negotiating a title defense vs. Ramirez.
- In Christmas spirts, 12 fights he wants next year: 1. Kovalev-Stevenson, 2. GGG-Canelo, 3. Gonzalez-Inoue, 4. Khan-Brook, 5. Fury-Wilder/Joshua, 6. Crawford-Postol, 7. Thurman-Porter, 8. Kovalev-Ward, 9. Rios-Provodnikov, 10. Crawford-Matthysse, 11. LSC-GRJ, 12. Spence to end Broner's career.
- Ramirez selling 13k tickets for an easy fight is incredible. They won't even be able to give away 13k tickets to Garcia-Guerrero.
- Charles Martin deserving of being ranked IBF #2? No.
- Joshua vs. Whyte? Joshua via KO.

So what the hell is up with Canelo? The fortnight period has long expired. Is the WBC stalling now or what? Not a good look for Canelo (expected imo)

It's called business. GBP, K2, and HBO work well together and they all know more money is to be made if they wait a lil bit. If not, then a catchweight will be asked for, demands from either camp can get out of hand, then Canelo will get "stripped" of his WBC title and BAM! no fight. Comprendes, Mendez?
