I honestly think that this whole Quillin thing was about Haymon's relationship with Jay-Z. That was a huge win for Jay-Z's company.

And even worse yet, if Taylor wins, bet that Quillin fights him. Maybe less likely that he fights Soliman if he wins but don't be surprised if that happens.

The funny part about that, it was only a win for RN in the sense that they would've had a chance to have their promotional debut but on Showtime/HBO with a pretty good title fight as the main event and got their name out there. They'd have almost definitely lost money on that card - Quillin Vs. Korobov is not bringing in $1.9M + the undercard fighters they'd have to pay they'd be putting on a $2M card.

I can't imagine a better way to hurt someone you dislike by making them give your guy a career high payday and have absolutely no attachment to him at the conclusion of the fight. It doesn't make sense to block this card from any angle. RN is still going to debut eventually, they have money so they'll get a fight done and apparently TR is open to working with them.

I could understand if this would stop them from making their debut or discourage them from boxing, but you don't put up damn near $2M then give up when things don't go your way.

.. also Quillin needs to lose the Kid Chocolate nickname, this man he is not, syphilis and all.

We talk a lot of shit about what fighters should and shouldn't do but it was obvious Haymon doesn't want any business with Roc Nation and send the fight to HBO. We seem to forget that GBP also put up a good chunk of money for the bid so he's gonna get his money. Right now, Quillin is chillin with his newborn baby with a check from Haymon for sitting this out. Of course I've said Haymon is shit, but fighters sign with him cuz they are getting top dollar for easy fights and all they have to do is make weight. I've said it along time ago just don't follow Showtime and GBP/Haymon, yet Garcia vs Salka get good ratings. Watch, this weekends fight with Broner is gonna have good ratings as well...

Brook Says Attack Unprovoked, Return Pushed To 2015

Boxer Kell Brook is in a stable condition in hospital in Tenerife after an attack whilst on holiday with his family.

The IBF Welterweight champion was admitted to hospital in the early hours Thursday morning after suffering a serious stab wound to his left leg.

Commenting from his hospital bed, Kell Brook said:

“I was out enjoying a night out before returning home to the UK when I was the victim of an unprovoked attack.

“I'm devastated right now after being on such a high having achieved my dream of becoming World Champion in Los Angeles last month. This is obviously a major setback but the thought of defending my title is what's keeping me positive right now. I want to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy for myself and my family at this time. Make no mistake – I will be back.”

Brook will spend the weekend in hospital and will return to Sheffield on Monday to begin his rehabilitation.

His promoter Eddie Hearn commented: “We were all glad to get out here and see Kell for ourselves. The important thing now is to get him home and after some rest begin physiotherapy on his injuries. His first defence was planned on December 6 which is now unrealistic but we fully expect Kell to be back in the ring early next year.”

Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn and Kell Brook will be making no further statements on the matter at this time.

Here's the difference between between what was on the table and what could be on the table, one of them is guaranteed and one of them is hinging on Quillin not getting his face crushed next time out.

Whatever is going with Haymon/RN should have no concern with Peter Quillin passing up a $1.4M purse. Any title fight he goes into next he goes in as a challenger and he definitely won't be getting the lions share of $1.4M. Boxing is littered with stories of guys who passed up a paycheck, took another "easier" fight, got smoked and never reached where they were again.

You can spin it anyway you'd like, it doesn't make sense for him to pass up that money. He'd likely have won and could still fight Jacobs this time as the WBO champ and made whatever he was gonna make anyway. Boxing is a brutal sport with these guys putting their lives on the line and you don't stay at the top forever, that money isn't always there.

That whole situation makes me wonder how much power Haymon really has over these dudes, or what kinda guarantees they are getting. You don't hear much about that info from their camp. At least DLH and Arum love to hear themselves talk so you at least get some information

naner12 @naner12 but that's Quillin financial problem, not yours. I'm not disagreeing with you but if that's how he wants to handle his business then that's on him. But today, it's another Al Haymon bullshit card on Showtime and I bet you will watch it. The ratings will be good and they are still laughing to the bank. When Quillin's next fight happens he might get a fat check ,that we still dream of getting, and you will watch that fight too. Whether its a big name fighter or not, he's gonna be okay with the money he makes and we can't do shit about it.

I don't care about his financials, what I'm saying is NOTHING at all makes sense about dropping this from Quillin's perspective and using he'll be fine as a reason is false in a sport where guys disappear just as fast as they arrived.

Quillin is a puppet here, there's absolutely no justification for doing what he did, and hopefully he finds that out sooner rather than later.

I'll actually be watching Estrada Vs. Segura and likely download the Showtime card, even though I don't agree that tonight's a bullshit card. Mattyshee is matched up well and the Broner fight isn't terrible for his skill level.
