Can't wait for the Pacquiao/Marquez fight, and I hope now for a Juan Diaz brutal KO.

Just a couple thoughts...LOL
If you want to see the most embarrasing knockout possible look up Nate Campbell/Robbie Peden. Campbell tries to taunt Peden into hitting him and Peden knocks him out with a left hook. Shit was hilarious.

how do you work the sopcast for these ppv events?

I would just Google the fight name and put Sopcast after it. Thats how I found the Taylor/Pavlik 2 fight...

I'll post up a link if I find one...usually someone from here does...

Boxingscene almost always has a 332 page thread dedicated to the Sopcast on whichever fight is going down....so I'd check there if its not here first.

Wright-Sturm More Likely Than Wright-Pavlik

By Mark Vester

Recently, Winky Wright has been calling out WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, but Richard Schaefer, CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, tells Dan Rafael that WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm is a more likely opponent for the summer.

Schaefer says that both fighters are interested, and Sturm is willing to come to America for the fight. "They're interested and Winky is also interested," said Schaefer.

Wright has been inactive since a decision loss to Bernard Hopkins last July. The last and only time Sturm has fought in America was back in 2004, when many saw him on the losing end of a controversial decision to Oscar De La Hoya. A win over Wright would put him right in the mix for potential unification dates with Pavlik and IBF champion Arthur Abraham.

De La Hoya: "Hopkins Will Beat Joe Calzaghe"

By Mark Vester

In a recent interview with Sporting Life, Oscar De La Hoya, as one may expect, picked his Golden Boy Promotions partner, Bernard Hopkins, to beat Joe Calzaghe on April 19 in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya feels that Hopkins is the only fighter who possesses the style to frustrate Calzaghe and take away his gameplan.

"I like Hopkins, for obvious reasons but if there's one guy who can frustrate Calzaghe and take him out of his gameplan that's Hopkins," De La Hoya said. "He's patient, and he doesn't care if he waits for you all night until you make a mistake. That's why I just have this feeling that Hopkins can pull it off."

"Hopkins is not going to be in front of him. I've noticed with Calzaghe's punches, when he throws combinations there are a lot of kind of pitty-pats, you know? When you're at distance from him he throws good, solid punches but Hopkins is a smart fighter and I think Hopkins is going to figure him out. The workrate obviously is a concern but Hopkins studies you, he dissects you and he takes care of you and I think he can pull it off."

De La Hoya told the outlet that Calzaghe's high workrate will work against him in the fight. The more he throws at Hopkins, the more Calzaghe exposes himself, says De La Hoya.

"The concern is the punch rate but Hopkins said it best - the more punches he's going to throw, the more he's going to be exposed. That's Hopkins for you, he's a student of the game and he'll break down any fighter, no matter if you throw 1,000 punches or 10 punches. He'll break you down and he has the patience to do it, he has the experience to do it and it's going to be very interesting," De La Hoya said.

"There's been fights where Joe Calzaghe doesn't throw that many punches, so what's the reason for that? Is it because his opponent is not at a good distance for his punches, is it because they can figure him out? I'm sure Hopkins has studied him left and right so we'll see what happens

Cory Spinks, Devon Alexander Presser Quotes

ST. LOUIS—Don King was in St. Louis today to formally announce his championship boxing twin bill at Scottrade Center on March 27 featuring hometown stars Cory Spinks and Devon Alexander.

Spinks will defend his International Boxing Federation junior middleweight championship against former three-time world champion Verno Phillips while Alexander, the World Boxing Council Continental Americas champion, will take on World Boxing Association FEDELATIN champion Miguel Callist.

All boxers were on hand today to discuss the event. Civility ruled the day until Spinks, who had just praised his opponent, asked for “a moment of silence for Verno Phillips’s career because I’m going to put it to rest in St. Louis on March 27.”

An incensed Phillips grabbed a microphone and challenged Spinks. “Nobody’s taken my heart away in my career and Cory Spinks isn’t going to do that. You don’t punch. Don’t run and hide. Come to fight.”

The 21-year-old emerging 140-pounder Alexander spoke confidently. “I’m on the rise. I’m a man on a mission to become undisputed champion of the world.”

Miguel Callist is happy to have an opportunity to display his skills. “I know this is going to be a tough fight but I’m one of the best kept secrets in boxing. I’m glad that Devon Alexander has accepted this challenge. So many people don’t want to fight and I’m glad Devon does.”

Full Quotes

Cory Spinks: “I know Verno is a veteran that knows his way around the ring. But I want a moment of silence for Verno Phillips’s career because I’m going to put it to rest in St. Louis on March 27.”

Verno Phillips: “I’m glad to have the opportunity to fight for the IBF 154-pound championship. I will be a red lion on March 27 and very raw.”

Directly to Cory Spinks: “Nobody’s taken my heart away in my career and Cory Spinks isn’t going to do that. You don’t punch. Don’t run and hide. Come to fight.”

Devon Alexander: “I’m on the rise. I’m a man on a mission to become undisputed champion of the world. I train every day for that. I want to unify at 140 pounds before moving up to 147.

“Thanks to my trainer Kevin Cunnigham, the best trainer in the world, Don King and everyone at Scottrade Center.”

Miguel Callist: “I know this is going to be a tough fight but I’m one of the best kept secrets in boxing. I’m glad that Devon Alexander has accepted this challenge. So many people don’t want to fight and I’m glad Devon does.

“I grew up watching Roberto Duran in Panama and now I’m here in St. Louis to make my mark on March 27. I will do my best and I will win.”

Kevin Cunningham (trainer and manager of both Cory Spinks and Devon Alexander): “We’ve got Cory Spinks. He’s the present. We’ve got Devon Alexander. He’s the future. Both are in tough fights.

“Miguel Callist is no joke. He’s a continental champion. Devon’s going to have to be ready. Somebody is going to leave that fight with two championship belts.

“Verno Phillips is a very respected three-time world champion. He’s for real. Cory’s going to have his work cut out for him.

“It’s going to be a great night of boxing on March 27 with two guys from St. Louis risking

Hot prospect Lee to sign on with Top Rank

Middleweight Andy Lee, a 2004 Irish Olympian and one of the hottest prospects in boxing, has agreed to a promotional contract with Top Rank that could one day lead to a title shot against Top Rank-promoted champion Kelly Pavlik.

Lee, manager and trainer Emanuel Steward and Top Rank's Bob Arum met this week in New York to finalize terms of the deal, Arum and Steward told ESPN.com.

Steward said the deal hasn't been signed yet, but that a signing was a formality.

"It's a good deal. We're in a good position and the timing is good," Steward said. "I feel very comfortable with Bob. I had made a commitment to Bob in the beginning of Andy's career and Andy fought on a few of his cards, but we didn't get everything worked out. Now, we have."

Andy Lee, left, is joining Top Rank with hopes of securing a fight with Kelly Pavlik.
Before his Top Rank deal commences, Lee, 23, faces Season 3 "Contender" participant Brian Vera on March 21 in the main event of ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights" at the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, Conn.

Lee's first bout under the Top Rank contract will be June 7 on the undercard of Pavlik's first title defense.

Arum said he is talking to HBO and Showtime about buying the card, but he said part of any deal would be for Lee's bout to be part of the telecast.

"We really want to get Andy television exposure, which is very important at this stage of his career," Arum said.

Arum said he's shopping a tripleheader: Pavlik's fight against an opponent to be named, Lee's bout, and a bout involving junior welterweight titleholder Ricardo Torres.

Arum said Torres' potential opponents include Demetrius Hopkins and Kendall Holt. If Torres faces Holt, it would be a rematch of Torres' wildly controversial 11th-round TKO in September in his native Colombia.

Steward said one of the keys to signing Lee with Top Rank was to move closer to a shot at Pavlik. Steward said that Top Rank would be contractually obligated to have Lee on Pavlik's upcoming undercards.

"We want people to start looking at these two guys together and thinking of them fighting each other," Steward said. "Bob is the path to get us a shot at Kelly and I like working with Bob and his staff."

Arum is experienced when it comes to promoting middleweights. He promoted numerous championship fights involving Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran during the division's 1980s heyday. He said he likes what he's seen from Lee so far.

"I love the kid. How good he is I don't know for sure yet, but he's looked good so far," Arum said. "He is charming and a very promotable kid."

Lee (15-0, 12 KOs), a powerful 6-foot-2 southpaw, has fought most of his bouts in the United States, although three of his last five have been in Ireland, where he is developing a fan base. Despite the size difference, Lee has sparred numerous rounds with Steward-trained heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who likes to use Lee for speed. Lee also held his own in sparring sessions with Jermain Taylor when he was middleweight champion.

Man did anyone check out ShoBox tonight? Robert Guerrero/Jason Litzau was a real dope fight. Guerrero looked real good, smothering him nailing him with left uppercuts to the body all night and then knocked him out with a nasty combination in the 8th round. Good fight.

David Haye Plans Heavyweight Cleanup

By Mark Vester

WBC/WBA cruiserweight champion David Haye is planning to clean up the heavyweight division once he's finished with UK-rival Enzo Maccarinelli on March 8 at the 02 Arena in London.

Haye wants to add Macca's WBO title around his waist and then he plans to move to heavyweight. Haye, 27, tells The Guardian that he plans to take the toughest fights out there because he wants to retire by 30.

”My plan is to not box past 30,” he explained in an interview with The Guardian. 'That gives me three years to become heavyweight champion of the world. I'm not going to cut any corners, I'm not going to fight any bums, I'm just going to get straight out there and clean up that division. Since Lennox Lewis retired there's been no flagship heavyweight running the show, and I really do believe that's going to be me.”

Haye still has Macca to contend with, and he plans to end the fight with the first big punch that connects flush.

”It's rare in boxing that you get the two best in the division slugging it out toe-to-toe,” Haye sad. The last time two British world champions fought was Nigel Benn against Chris Eubank in 1993. That was huge, but this fight will be more explosive. It will come down to who lands the first clean bomb, and his style is tailor-made for me.

”I can't see it going past five rounds. The only way he will win is if he gets a chin transplant from Marvin Hagler!”

Lennox Lewis Against Holyfield-Tyson Trilogy

Mark Vester

Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, 42, told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportweek that Evander Holyfield, 45, and Mike Tyson, 41, should never meet for a third time.

Last week Holyfield revealed that he was recently contacted by Jeff Fenech, on behalf of Tyson, asking whether or not he was interested in fighting Tyson for a third time. Lewis feels that Tyson does not stand a chance of winning.

"I wouldn't give Tyson a hope. Evander's obviously the better fighter but I'd rather see him do something else. Why fight the same fight again? We all know who would to win. There's always a danger every time you step into the ring with a man who weighs over 200lbs and is throwing hard punches at you," Lewis said. "But one of the reasons that made me quit is the things I used to do at 20, I couldn't do anymore when I got to 40."

Lewis retired back in 2004, but admits that he still gets the urge to return when watching fights.

"When I see certain fights I'm thinking 'these guys, what are they doing? They need me to go in and show them how it's done'. I get that urge once in a while, but I understand what happens as you age, and I've moved onto other things," Lewis said

Joan Guzman-Alex Arthur Set For April 26

SAN DIEGO, Calif., – Sycuan Ringside Promotions announced today that World Boxing Organization (WBO) 130-Pound Champion Joán Guzman has signed a contract to defend his title against interim champion Alex Arthur on April 26, 2008. Promoted by Frank Warren of Sports Network, the fight will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, at a venue to be determined.

“I am tired of hearing the British and Scottish say I am not going to show up for this fight,” Guzman said. “Arthur should be scared and running for cover. I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in my division, and I can’t wait to get there and show him what this proud Dominican has to offer.

”I am going to take Arthur’s head off as payment to the British for spreading rumors that I am scared of fighting him.”

In his last bout, Guzman successfully defended his WBO crown for the second time by scoring a 12-round unanimous decision over Humberto Soto on Nov. 17, 2007, at Bally’s in Atlantic City, N.J. Guzman used his outstanding speed to win 118-110 and 117-111 twice on the scorecards.

“Guzman is a man of conviction,” said Jose Nuñez, Guzman’s manager. “He trains hard and sacrifices in the months leading up to the fight. He has been frustrated by all the talking and speculation as to whether he will show up for this fight in the United Kingdom.

“Believe me when I say that there is not a fighter that Guzman fears. I know that Frank Warren and the British have to try to make their fighter look good for the British fans, but we plan to get there and take care of business. Arthur is standing in the way of big fights for my fighter, so Guzman has to eliminate Arthur quickly.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions, Guzman’s promoter, is pleased that their fighter will have a chance to go to the U.K. to battle Arthur.

“We are proud that Guzman is promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions,” said Scott Woodworth, Sycuan’s vice president of boxing. “He has signed the agreement and already is training for this important fight. He really wants to go to Scotland and show the British and the Scottish what he is made of. We at Sycuan know we will be raising Guzman’s hands in victory at the end of the fight.”

Frank Warren won the rights to this championship fight in a WBO purse bid. Sycuan Ringside Promotions remains Guzman’s promoter and continues to provide him with all the support necessary to defeat Arthur and move on to other great fights.
