Good to hear. If that fight happened they'd have to air it on Comedy Central.
It's too bad Guerrero and Ortiz turned down Keith Thurman. If he gets a solid win or two against guys like that he would be the best opponent for Floyd at 147, imo.

gennady golovkin andre ward By Iggy Chowdhury – This is simply a fight that must happen because no one else really wants to fight either of these fighters albeit for different reasons. Below I assess the two boxers and how they would fare against each other.
Gennady Golovkin – This guy is the real deal. The way he stalks his opponent and cuts down the ring with intelligent diagonal steps is just pure ring intelligence and makes for a claustrophobic fight for whoever steps in the ring with him. Add to that his ability to punch with concussive power using either hand and a jab that feels like a straight.
Golovkin’s chin is rarely tested because his movement in and out of range is so very good that his opponents are always a few millimeters short of landing and the times when he has been caught he barely bats an eyelid. Then there is perhaps the scariest aspect of this unique boxer; his calm, ice cold, emotionless expression, it is as though he is not even in a fight but standing in line at the bank waiting, in his case waiting to land that knockout blow.
In interviews Golovkin has is softly spoken, humble and always respectful of his opponent. His lack of ego means that boxing superpowers HBO and Showtime do not take much of an interest in promoting him and other boxers simply avoid him like the plague. Facing Golovkin is a lose lose situation, no money and high probability of losing. The boxing world is very much aware that this is a truly gifted and dangerous boxer but Golovkin is in reality untested, he has yet to fight what you could call an elite level fighter but the talent is evident for anyone who knows anything about boxing.
Andre Ward – This guy is definitely a world class boxer and would trouble anyone from any era due to his awkward boxing style. A lot of people say he is boring but he fights using a safety first tactic and has out-boxed all his opponents to date.
Ward can fight at long range or in the pocket and has the second best defense on the planet (after Floyd Mayweather Jr). He is fast and strong with stamina to last very comfortably for 12 rounds. He has fought the elite and dominated against the likes of Arthur Abraham, Mikkel Kessler, Carl Froch and Chad Dawson who were all quite simply schooled. He has charisma and a swagger which only a world class athlete will exude but he faces a similar problem to Golovkin albeit for different reasons.
HBO and Showtime have no interest in Ward unless he fights another big name as on his own he cannot bring in the PPV sales. The problem is he has fought all the other big names out there and the ones that are left (Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Sergio Martinez) will not want the fight because the money will not be worth it because they know they will most like lose. Like his style or not, there is no denying that Ward has mastered the art of hit and not be hit and is one of the most talented boxers on the planet.
Golovkin vs. Ward – The Middleweight and Super Middleweight ranks do not possess fighters who can beat either of these guys so the only option for them in all honesty is to fight each other. I know this is hopeful thinking but if the fight could happen it would be a victory for boxing. Styles make fights and very few fighters have the ability to put Ward under the type of pressure that makes it worth watching.
Golovkin is the master of closing down the ring and his power and offense against Wards ring smart and defense would make for compelling viewing. It would also provide both fighters with a genuine challenge and the fact that neither has ever suffered a defeat would mean they both have something to lose.
The Outcome - Who would win? Well you never know how a fight will turn out! It could end up being a boring fight which Ward dominates with defense and counter punching, negating the threat that Golovkin brings. It could end up being a short fight with Golovkin putting Ward under heavy pressure, closing down the ring and forcing Ward into a dog-fight eventually ending in the early rounds with a devastating KO, inflicting Ward with his first ever defeat. It could just end up going the distance and the judges robbing the better fighter on the night as so often happens these days. I end this article with a simple question: Who do you think would win?

Mayweather Khan Mayweather vs. Khan floyd mayweather jr amir khan by James Le Blanc: The boxing world has been buzzing with news out of England that Amir Khan was going to back out of a fight with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander this December in order to preserve himself for a match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year in May.
The logic behind this was that Alexander was too high a risk, and that losing to him would ensure Khan would never get the mega match he has been dreaming and talking about for years. When I heard the news, not knowing if they were true or not, I immediately knew that it was a bad move for Khan and would bring certainty that he would NOT fight Floyd in May if he were to avoid the Alexander fight.
Mayweather has strategically fought the best opponent’s available coming off of sensational victories in recent years; this is the recipe to getting a fight with him. Khan’s last outing was against an old veteran in Julio Diaz that rocked Khan and dropped him while losing a unanimous decision to Khan. Long story short Khan did not look so great in his last few fights, he is much different from the Amir Khan that was running through the 140lb division a few years ago. With no exceptional recent win how would Floyd justify fighting a presumed washed up Amir Khan?
ESPN’s Dan Rafael recently got to the bottom of all the madness and an official statement from Khans camp is that he is training for a potential match with Alexander.
Alexander’s camp, frustrated that talks have gone on for months with no ink, has given Khan a few days to sign a contract or they will move on to other options and another date.
So it was a bad rumor, and people were spreading it on twitter like wild fire. Some approved of the match up and most did not. But what I found interesting in all this is that Stephen Espinoza, Showtime Executive is recently quoted that he likes the match up.
Getting the network behind a potential match-up is roughly 80% of the battle as Andre Ward would tell you and even before these hellacious rumors surfaced the potential fight between Amir Khan and Devon Alexander was already dubbed as an audition for Mayweather’s next opponent.
At this point every fight at welterweight on Showtime is an audition. The fact is Amir Khan stands out above the rest because of his skill set, exceptional offensive skills, and his fans. He has that questionable chin, but tearing Devon Alexander apart (which I think he can do) will set him up as a front runner, a welterweight title holder, and a guy that will go at Mayweather the way many feel Manny Pacquaio would do.
I think the last few days have been a precursor for things to come, and that is Amir Khan in a unification bout with Mayweather next year.

Roach says Cotto wants Mayweather rematch

Mayweather Cotto Mayweather vs. Cotto miguel cotto freddie roach floyd mayweather jr By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach says his fighter Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) is gunning for a big rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2014 after Cotto takes care of his opponent for this Saturday night Devlin Rodriguez (28-6-3, 16 KO’s) and then beats either Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Sergio Martinez.
This could be the only way that one of Roach’s fighters is able to face Mayweather Jr., as we already saw how Roach’s #1 fighter Manny Pacquiao had a couple chances to fight Mayweather go up in smoke for various reasons.
Roach thinks that Cotto will make easy work of Sergio or Canelo for some reason. It’s hard to imagine that happening when you look at how bad Cotto looked in losing his last fight to Austin Trout last December.
Roach said to WBC “I think Miguel is going to win. He might fight against Canelo Alvarez or Sergio Martinez and easily beat them, so he can have a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.”
Sergio Martinez and Canelo would likely run over Cotto and give him a real bad beating if those fights happen. Roach is really overestimating Cotto’s talent level and how much he has left in the tank at 32.
It’s pretty much going to take a win over the likes of Canelo or Sergio or maybe both for Cotto get a rematch against Floyd, because the fact is Cotto has lost his last 2 fights and he wasn’t actually won a fight in 2 years. Why would Mayweather Jr. want to fight a guy like that when a lot fans see Cotto as being past his best?
There’s no point in Mayweather taking his career backwards to revisit an opponent that he already beat in the past? What made Mayweather’s win over Cotto even more interesting was that he did it by going toe-to-toe with the Puerto Rican fighter in fighting his style and he was able to get the better of him.
Mayweather Jr. could have easily have boxed Cotto’s head off by staying on the outside, pot-shotting, moving, and making Cotto miss all night long with his shots. Instead of doing that, Mayweather showed mercy on Cotto by brawling with him and giving him a chance to win the fight. Even then, Cotto still couldn’t beat Mayweather.
If I was Cotto, I wouldn’t assume anything about his fight on Saturday against Delvin Rodriguez at the Amway Center, in Orlando, Florida. That’s going to be a very tough fight for Cotto, and he might even lose it.
Austin Trout sees Cotto winning by a close decision, and thinks it’s going to be a much tougher fight than what people think it is. Trout easily beat Rodriguez last year by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision, but that’s Trout. He’s a very good fighter with slick boxing skills, and good size.
Cotto can’t do the same kinds of things that Trout did because he doesn’t have the size, speed or defensive skills to dominate Rodriguez. About the best that Cotto can hope for is that he maybe overpowers Rodriguez early.
If that doesn’t happen then it’s going to be a long night for Cotto where he’s going to take a ton of punishment.
The Cotto-Rodriguez fight will be televised on HBO, so you can expect Rodriguez to be going all out to beat Cotto because of all the people watching the fight. This is going to be the best version of Rodriguez that people have seen for a long time

DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH FOR ALEXANDER VS. KHAN; IT'S NOT HAPPENING!

On Wednesday, representatives of former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan sent out an official statement denying reports that a deal had been reached for a potential showdown with undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. According to the press release, Khan is currently in San Francisco where he has already started training camp "with the aim of fighting again in December against Alexander once an agreement can be reached." While it's true that Khan is indeed in San Francisco working with world-class trainer Virgil Hunter, FightHype.com has learned that the statement isn't entirely 100% accurate. Sources close to the information have reiterated that a clash between Khan and IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander is "definitely not happening." In fact, we're told that neither Khan nor Alexander will be fighting on the December 7 card at Barclays Center.
It's unclear as to why the fight is not taking place, but according to one source, Khan will be returning against "someone totally different", though who that someone is and what date that will be is still a mystery. Furthermore, we were informed that the decision to move Alexander to another date has already been made. When FightHype.com first broke the news last week that Alexander vs. Khan would not be happening, there had already been discussions about giving former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judh the opportunity to face Alexander. Brooklyn native Paulie Malignaggi was also contacted about the possibility of facing undefeated welterweight contender Shawn Porter. According to another source, however, both of those ideas were quickly scrapped due to a difference of opinion when it came to the finances.
Now, it looks like there's a strong possibility that Judah and Porter will face each other instead on the December 7 card, while Alexander and Khan go in different directions. Whether or not Porter vs. Judah would become the main event remains to be seen, however, it definitely won't be the only fight with a familiar name. Enter former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who just last week informed his fans via Twitter that he too was returning to the ring on December 7.
Translated, he stated, "They've told me that I return on December 7th. I hope it gets here fast because I am hungry." Though he did not name an opponent, I would not be surprised if Ortiz faced former Contender star Alfonso Gomez, who he was originally set to face in September before scrapping that fight in favor of an acting role in the upcoming Expendables 3 movie. That being said, I also wouldn't rule out a potential rematch with either Josesito Lopez or Andre Berto, though that might be asking too much of Ortiz considering that he hasn't fought in over a year and is coming off of back-to-back losses as well as back-to-back jaw surgeries.

All Mayweather fights from here on out will be boring. GBP and Shosports paid him big bucks for the Canelo fight and from here on out it will be snore central. He kind of hinted he is going to fight Danny Garcia next in an interview, but that would still be boring. I hope I do see him fight real 147 lbers from here on out cuz fight after fight they will give him more problems, but he'll still win a boring fight

Bob Arum said that Canelo Alvarez is a free agent right now, but Richard Schaefer and Alvarez himself say he's still with Golden Boy, and still happy.
When speaking about his new working relationship with Miguel Cotto, Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com that Canelo Alvarez is a free agent, and that prompted a quick reply from Golden Boy Promotions, where Richard Schaefer said that Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO) is under a long-term contract with "multiple fights" remaining on the deal.
Golden Boy also released a statement attributed to Alvarez, the 23-year-old superstar fighter who was involved in the biggest-money fight in boxing history just a few weeks ago in a loss to Floyd Mayweather.
"I am very happy with Golden Boy Promotions," said Canelo in the statement. "I'm scheduled to travel next week to Los Angeles to meet with Richard Schaefer and Eric Gomez for a meeting that we hold after each fight.
"I have a contract with Golden Boy Promotions with which I am very happy. Any event or matter that points to the contrary is false."
If Alvarez were indeed a free agent, that would be massive news. But right now, given that Golden Boy has delivered big fights for him and made him a centerpiece attraction of their company, even if his contract were up -- and it does not appear to be -- then it doesn't seem like he'd be leaving the GBP fold anyway. It does if you have a really hard time taking off those last 2 pounds, but I don't think that was the case here.
