Mayweather Explains How He Stays On Weight, No Diet

By Miguel Rivera

WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26KOs) has managed to stay at 148-pounds for the last month, as he preapres for Saturday's fight with Robert "The Ghost' Guerrero (31-1-1, 18KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather says he made a career decision a few years ago to start fighting at his walking weight, which is around 150-pounds. Because of his great metabolism and the countless hours of work that he generates in the gym, Mayweather is able to eat just about anything without worrying about weight gain.
"At one time I realized that I have the skills and the sharp mind to still beat these guys [at the higher weights]. So why would I hurt myself just to get down in weight and then go up another 20-pounds [overnight] or blow up another 30-pounds. I've been able to handle big guys my whole life. Like I said before, I don't really feel like [making weight will be a problem in my career]. I'm able to eat four times a day, five times a day. My metabolism burns it right off," Mayweather said.
"Like today, I can go eat pizza and I can go eat Big Macs but what you have to realize is that I work harder than any other fighter. When we're at the boxing gym, we don't have a bell. You don't hear a bell. When we box and we spar, we try to get the toughest competition, the roughest competition."

The fights that need to be made
May 3rd, 2013 | Post Comment

manny pacquiao gennady golovkin floyd mayweather jr boxing adrien broner By Onaps: Boxing fans are like classical music lovers to MMA’s headbangers ball, and as a boxing fan, these hard headed promoters needs to realize that some classic music needs to be made amongst each other.

All boxing fans deserve the best fights to be made. So, I am comprising a list of the top 10 fights that boxing fans news to see

10). André Ward vs. Bernard Hopkin: This is a classic, passing of the torch fight. Hopkins is the only challenge near his weight beside possibly André Dirrell (who needs to get active before his prime passes him by). I don’t see Ward losing to B-Hop, although it would be an interesting contest.

9). Gennady Golovkin vs. Peter Quillin: This would be a unification bout and One hell of a dog fight. Both of these combatants impress me more every time out. I believe Golovkin, with his pedigree and power would prevail, but don’t count out Kid Chocolate, he is a dog with bite.

8). Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Mikey García: I really do not have to say much about This one. Two of boxing’s best, in the same ring, a terrific scrap. I see García winning a close competitive chess match, although I wouldn’t bet on it.

7). Adrien Broner vs. Timothy Bradley: This would pose a huge step up for “The Problem” Broner, and would be a good measuring stick to see if Broner is elite. I see Broner beating Bradley in a tight decision.

6). Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder: This scrap needs some seasoning, and I couldn’t pick a winner, but would bring some life info the heavyweight division.

5). Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. vs. Carl Froch: Talk about a slugfest. With Jr’s chin & sheer size, he would give Froch fits, although “The Cobra” Froch would eventually catch him, hurt him, and win a competitive bomb fest.

4). Keith Thurman vs. Devon Alexander: Why not? Thurman wants a big test, and here it is. I believe Alexander would Box circles around Thurman, but with that equalizer punching power, this would be a good fight.

3). Saul “Canelo” Álvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin: I know Golovkin is already is on my list but this is a fight that would be a true test for both. I see Golovkin stopping Canelo in the 10th or 11th rounds, but it would be good while it lasted.

2). Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao: Not the fight it once could have been, but still should happen. I see Mayweather making Pacquiao look foolish before stopping him in 8.

1). Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Saul “Canelo” Álvarez: This is the biggest fight in boxing now. I see “Money” Mayweather winning a close decision if it happens soon; otherwise, its hard to call.

Honorable mention: Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse, Mikey Garcia vs Yuriorkis Gamboa, Danny Garcia vs. Marcos Maidana, Adrien Broner vs. Amir Khan, David Haye vs. Deontay Wilder, Brandon Ríos vs. Lucas Matthysse, Marcos Maidana vs. Lucas Matthysse.

I can go on forever. Let’s get some of these fights made.

I agree with all those fights. Rigondeaux won't move up though he's said in a video he walks around 122-124 pounds between fights and said everyone at 126 weighs 150 pounds naturally they just shrink down to make weight which is absolutely true.

Gamboa vs Garcia would be better.

Sidenote: Gamboa fell the fuck off hard

Maybe your thinking of someone else but I'm not asking for a Canelo fight. If Floyd wants to fight at 147 he obviously has that right. My only thing though is Floyd currently is a champion at 154 so if he has no intentions of defending his title he should vacate it.

Rigondeaux has never fought at 126, doesn't hold a title there. His point was he's not planning on moving up in weight anytime soon.

How is that any different from Donaire?? Anytime Donaire got to Rigondeaux, which was plenty, he was countered or flat out missed his shots. What good is cutting off the ring if you're getting popped in the face before you can even land a shot. Bigface likes to over simplify things as usual. Cut off the ring then what? Throw punches that miss? Get punched in the face? Plus as it's been said, Rigondeaux was in striking distance most all of the fight. It wasn't a matter of Donaire chasing him it was a matter of Rigondeaux being a better counter puncher and superior boxer/athlete.

where is the cutting off the ring here? I can post countless gifs just like this:

This is simply a case of not cutting off the ring? Doesn't look like it to me. Looks like Donaire is getting beat to the punch by a guy who is even faster than he is.
You showing that just makes Donaire look more like a bum. Donaire is over hyped get over all your double talking and double standards doesn't change a thing.

No I remember u just saying u didnt think Canelo was to big for Mayweather. Thats all I was pointing out. The fact is Canelo is to big for Mayweather whether he wants to defend his title at 154 or not. Canelo will come into the ring over 170 while May will barely be 150. Big difference. Got Em!!

I said I didn't think Canelo's size would be a problem for Mayweather since he's a far superior fighter and that Canelo is a boxer-puncher so he's not the kind of guy that would try to impose his size on Floyd, like how Ortiz tried to. If Canelo was a come forward very physical fighter than yeah, that could be tough but I think the style match up favors Floyd greatly. The ginger is too inactive and he's not going to out box Floyd from the outside.

Yea thats right. How much do u think he weighs on fight night? I was watching the weigh in yesterday and some of the experts say he will probably come into tonights fight in the low to mid 150's while Guerrero will be bigger. Floyd doesnt balloon up like most of these other fighters. Thats about his walking weight. Got Em!!
