How is that any different from Donaire?? Anytime Donaire got to Rigondeaux, which was plenty, he was countered or flat out missed his shots. What good is cutting off the ring if you're getting popped in the face before you can even land a shot. Bigface likes to over simplify things as usual. Cut off the ring then what? Throw punches that miss? Get punched in the face? Plus as it's been said, Rigondeaux was in striking distance most all of the fight. It wasn't a matter of Donaire chasing him it was a matter of Rigondeaux being a better counter puncher and superior boxer/athlete.

where is the cutting off the ring here? I can post countless gifs just like this:

This is simply a case of not cutting off the ring? Doesn't look like it to me. Looks like Donaire is getting beat to the punch by a guy who is even faster than he is.

Danny Garcia vs. Matthysse/Peterson on September 7th

By Rick Reeno

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer advised
BoxingScene.com that WBC/WBA junior welterweight
champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16KOs) will return on
September 7th - potentially against the winner of Lucas
Matthysse (33-2, 31KOs) vs. Lamont Peterson (31-1-1,
16KOs), which takes place on May 18th at the Boardwalk Hall
in Atlantic City.

"That's the plan. Danny Garcia will return on September 7th and
I would like for him to fight the winner of Lucas Matthysse and
Lamont Peterson. This fight will be the lead-in to our big pay-per-view on September 14th. We want to have a big fight the
week before the pay-per-view," Schaefer told
BoxingScene.com.

Schaefer says Garcia's return will likely take place on the East
Coast. His last two fights took place at the Barclays Center in
Brooklyn. There has been interest to bring Garcia's next fight to
either the MGM Grand or the Mandalay Bay. Garcia stopped
Amir Khan last July at the Mandalay Bay.

"The fight will probably happen on the East Coast, but there has
been interest from the MGM Grand and the Mandalay Bay to
have Danny Garcia fight in Las Vegas," Schaefer said.

Matthysse better watch out for Lamont Peterson! Tough fight for both fighters, I promise it will be a war! Heard Matthysse is with al haymon now
Yeah he is. I thought Garcia and also Peterson are with Haymon too, which is weird since that's a conflict of interest and against the law according to the Ali act which prohibits a manager to manage both fighters in a fight and pocket money from both sides.

I think the way Haymon gets around this is he's listed as a personal advisor to some fighters and manager to others. This was the case on Saturday with Quillin vs Guerrero, both with Haymon but technically he's Peter's advisor.

Lucas Matthysse Signs With

by Rick Reeno

According to multiple sources in Argentina, hard-punching junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31KOs) signed a deal with influental adviser/manager Al Haymon. Matthysse is facing IBF junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (31-1-1,, 16KOs) in a catch-weight bout on May 18th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Going in Haymon's direction would certainly assist Matthysse, the WBC's mandatory challenger, in his quest to secure a fight with full WBC champ Danny Garcia, also handled by Haymon. However, Matthysse has a tough task ahead with Peterson.

Sergio Martinez Out For 2013, Dibella Claims Knee Issues Hampered Martinez

Sergio Martinez out for 2013

By Dan Rafael | ESPN

Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez must have had déjà vu following his successful title defense against England's Martin Murray on Saturday night.

Martinez emerged from his sixth title defense, which he won on a unanimous decision -- all three judges scored the bout 115-112 -- with a right knee injury, broken left hand and bad cut over his left eye.

Those are the exact injuries he also suffered last September when he outpointed Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a more lopsided fight that saw Martinez get knocked down and nearly knocked out in the 12th round but survive for the clear unanimous decision.

Martinez's left hand was placed in a cast and his cut was stitched up after the fight, but the most serious injury was the knee. Promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN.com on Monday that Martinez's knee likely will require a second surgery and that he will not fight for the rest of 2013, scuttling a possible fall rematch with Chavez, which had been heavily discussed.

"He's probably out for the rest of the year. I just can't see him returning this year," DiBella said. "He probably needs another surgery to remove scar tissue from the knee and he needs more time to rehab it than he gave it after the Chavez fight."

Although Martinez pronounced himself in perfect health going into the fight with Murray -- "All of my injuries have healed 100 percent," he told ESPN.com a few days before the bout -- it turned out they were not.

"He was never fully recovered from the knee surgery," said DiBella, noting that the injury made it very hard for Martinez to plant his feet. "The knee was OK early in the training camp but it wasn't perfect. But with three weeks left in camp, it got much worse. He probably would have postponed the fight if was in a normal arena. He was damaged goods going in against Murray."

The fight with top-10 contender Murray (25-1-1, 11 KOs) was Martinez's long-awaited homecoming in Argentina, where he had not fought since he was an unknown in 2002. But he returned as megastar in his country and sold out the 50,000-seat Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield, a soccer stadium in Buenos Aires, where high winds and a driving rain storm made for a surreal atmosphere for Saturday night's fight.

"People who noticed his body wasn't cut were correct," DiBella said. "It wasn't a normal camp. Murray was big and strong though and deserves props."

Martinez broke his left hand in the second round when he caught Murray with a shot on the elbow. The fracture is in a different place than the one he had in the fight with Chavez, DiBella said.

Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KOs), 38, was diagnosed with a "left hand carpal large bone compression fracture" and his doctor said his hand would need to be in a splint for 45 days followed by two months of rehabilitation.

Murray knocked Martinez down in the eighth round with a clean straight right hand. Because of the bum knee and the slick canvas, DiBella said Martinez never had his legs fully under him in the fight.

"The 100 percent humidity and a wet canvas hurt and he was also fighting a very good opponent. Martin Murray is a good fighter," DiBella said. "I was scared sh------ but he pulled it out in the 11th and 12th rounds and Murray said he was hurt in the 12th round.

"Sergio had to use every trick in the book in 11 and 12 to pull it out. The fight had the makings of an upset, but I'm just glad it wasn't. But he was banged up going into the fight. It was a real gutty performance. In any case, Sergio's body needs time to recover."

How could have Pac ducked Mosley for years if they weren't in the same weight class?

When Pac moved up to 147 there were two champs - Cotto and Mosley. Cotto was with Top Rank, Mosley with Golden Boy. It's obvious which one Top Rank would make.

Only after Mosley left Golden Boy did Pacquiao fight him. By then it was a waste of time as Mosley hadn't looked good since Margarito.

Definitely not a duck with the top rank golden boy fued.

Same goes for Floyd though... if he didn't fight some top rank fighter that had more to the shitty fued.

There was one time frame for them to fight which was right after Pac KOd Ricky Hatton. Your right the fued wasn't as big as it is now though. Shane offered to fight Pac as low as 142 or 143 if I recall correctly but Cotto was champion too and Bob Arum of course chose the in house fight with Cotto, which obviously was a huge PPV. Shane then fought Floyd.

Just to add. During when Pacquiao signed to fight Cotto, Mosley signed to fight Andre Berto. After Pacquiao beat Cotto, Mosley was scheduled to fight Berto. Pac and May didn't agree to fight over the cutoff date, and Pacquiao then signed to fight the next highest ranked welterweight available in Clottey. Then Berto pulled out because of the Haiti earthquake and shortly after Shane signed to fight Mayweather.

Freddie Roach however didn't want Pacquiao to fight Mosley right after the Hatton fight, he said Mosley was too big. I think that's where the ducking idea comes from. But as we know Roach doesn't make the fights, he strongly opposed the recent Marquez fight but Arum made it anyway and the rest is history lol.

I think Manny has always bern down to fight anyone. I remember him watching Sergio Martinez vs someone, can't recall, and Pac was saying he wasn't impressed and wanted to fight him but lol no way Bob would have made that.

Anyways, totally off subject but found this recent study on combat sports. Goes to show there is plenty of room for all three:

Berto Eyes Ortiz, Guerrero Revenge - Wants Mayweather

Andre Berto is a man on a mission and getting back to the top is the ultimate goal. Berto has made drastic changes to his team, both training and business wise, as he vows to not take any more step backs from here on in.

Berto is slated to face hardnosed Jesus Soto Karass this summer as it will be his comeback fight after his defeat to Robert Guerrero this past November. While Berto is moving on with his career, the former champion still wants to have a chance to avenge the two losses on his record against Guerrero and Victor Ortiz.

“Yeah, definitely. I come from a place where we're real men's men. Anybody that knows my family, knows that we're tough guys. I rather of course than go through this fight here, really just back track and have those fights with Ortiz and a fight with Guerrero just to clean that sh*t up and then go in there and go after the big man” Berto would tell BoxingScene.

The big man is of course is pound for pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Berto’s losses prevented him from getting an opportunity to face Mayweather as it was both Ortiz and Guerrero who signed up to fight Floyd instead. Despite his missed opportunities, Berto feels things happen for a reason and he promises not to let a third opportunity get away from him.

“Yeah man, twice! Twice now [Mayweather has] got away from me but like I said, everything's a learning process. Everything happens for a reason and it all probably happened just so I can get back to where I need to be. Refocus, work on different things and make the changes that I made. But I promise you there won't be a third time. I promise you that so we're going to get to it. Best believe” said Berto.

Andre Berto hopes to end 2013 on a high note and get right back in the mix of things and he hopes to land rematches with prior foes and is targeting the king of the division.
