Watching P-Will kinda reminds me of watching Chico...he's a pretty good inside fighter for someone his height, and doesn't really use his height advantage very often.

What I don't get is that Arum clearly stated that whether Tony wins or loses against Sugar Shane, the Cotto rematch is going to happen. Which is why I don't see why he didn't just take the purse offered to have the rematch with P-Will.

Had he won, he would've been the clear cut king of 147.

Clottey has a good chance at 147 at getting the nod against Williams. Why doesn't Williams call him out? Clottey has 2 losses, one was a DQ and the other one in my opinion should have been a win (against Margarito). Not once I have heard Williams, or anyone call out Clottey. Give him the most feared man title if it has to go to someone...

Kirkland would be a nice fight, but I don't think he could get the KO. Daniel Santos would apply the right amount of pressure to give Williams a ton of trouble.

154 or 160 Winky would box circles around him.

160 I'd roll with Pav or Arthur. Hell, imagine Jermain Taylor in with Williams. These are actual world class boxers. Jermain Taylor with an extensive amature background. They guy was an Olympic medalist, comon now. These are people who are one league above Williams.

If you really look at his resume his only notable win is Margarito, who he scraped by. You can only milk that win for so long...

You must have a short memory, Williams indeed called out clottey and just very recently Clotty vs Williams was almost a done deal but it fell through. Both the fighters agreed to the fight, they wanted it for November (29th) but HBO didn't have availible funds for it to happen this year.

When HBO is unwilling to raise the budget for any particular event, the promoter(s) are more or less forced to find the best possible opponent with whatever amount of money made available in the pot. Unfortunately, the secured opponent is not always someone who the public is willing to watch, but usually the guy who is willing to take a risk for short-money, with the hope of pulling out a televised win that changes the direction of his career.

Vincent Scolpino, manager of Clottey, would tell BoxingScene.com on Tuesday that he's hoping the fight can happen in the early part of 2009. Top Rank's Bob Arum recently made it known that he wants to focus on putting together a unification fight between Clottey and Williams for next year. Williams' promoter Dan Goossen has not heard from anyone with respect to a Clottey unification, so far.

Kirkland is much to green for a guy like Williams. I'm a big Kirkland fan/believer but he couldn't handle P-will now or any time soon.

I'll give you winky but winky isn't even on the radar since he's been on the back of a milk carton since 2007.

Taylor is not a middleweight bro, he moved up to 168.

Dzinziruk wants Williams!
WBO champ ready to fight the "Punisher" in the United States
December 1, 2008
By Wolfgang Schiffbauer

Unbeaten WBO light middleweight champ Sergiy Dzinziruk wants to fight interim titlist Paul Williams as soon as possible. And he wants it to happen in the United States.

"Sergiy is one of the best boxers of our stable," said German promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl of Universum-Box Promotions. "And we would be very happy to show his skills in the United States as well."

"I'm ready," said Dzinziruk in a previous statement on Fightnews. "Just let me know where and when. I think it would be an excellent fight. I want this fight in the USA."

After Williams punished three-time champ Verno Phillips on Saturday night to capture the WBO interim belt, the Ukrainian powerhouse is eager to defend 'the real' WBO crown against the American star who is proclaimed as "boxing's most avoided fighter." Dzinziruk, who predicted a Williams win, wants to showcase his boxing ability in the USA to establish himself at the top of the boxing world.

Both Dzinziruk and Williams have similar records, both are good fighters. It would certainly be a interesting light middleweight clash.

Dzinziruk would be willing to delay a unification with Puerto Rican Daniel Santos, a fighter he already beat convincingly, to get a immediate showdown with Williams. The Ukrainian champion wants to prove himself in America and wants to show that Europeans are excellent fighters as well.

Williams, who stated that he could move up or down in weight to face the likes of Antonio Margarito or Floyd Mayweather, now has the opportunity to get rid of the interim title and win the real belt at 154 pounds if he decides to stay at this weight. His promoter Dan Goossen only needs to pick up the phone as WBO champion Sergiy Dzinziruk is waiting for the "Punisher."

This is definitely a tune up fight before the Margarito Rematch....

Miguel Cotto vs. Michael Jennings Deal is Reached, Feb. 21

By Mark Vester

It appears a deal has finally been reached for Miguel Cotto to face Michael Jennings of the UK for the vacant WBO welterweight title. Cotto's legal advisor Gabriel Penagaricano says that a deal was reached in principle with Top Rank on Saturday, to fight Jennings on February 21 - likely at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, though Puerto Rico still has a minor shot at hosting the fight. Penagaricano points out that contracts still have to be signed.

"During the day on Saturday, we reached an agreement in principle to finally do the fight on February 21, although nothing has been signed as of yet. Now we go through the process of editing the contract, but everything has already been agreed upon so there should not be a problem. It will be against Michael Jennings for the vacant title of the WBO," Penagaricano told El Nuevo Dia. "There is also an agreement in principle, that neither has signed, between Bob Arum and Jennings' promoter, Frank Warren."

The paper says that Cotto stands to make at least $3 million for the fight. Then the pay-per-view comes into play. Cotto-Jennings is scheduled to be a co-main event on a Top Rank promoted pay-per-view event. The other co-main event will feature Kelly Pavlik defending his middleweight titles against Marco Antonio Rubio.

Cotto has a rematch scheduled for June with Antonio Margarito, who faces Shane Mosley on January 24 in Las Vegas.

I want the Margarito/Cotto rematch in either Mexico, or my second choice would be Puerto Rico, so Cotto could be beaten senseless again, in his home country. But after that Corley robbery, and the fact that those filthy Puerco Ricans can't behave in public, it might be better to not even visit that place.

Dzinzurik beats Williams by a clean UD .. I'll month av bet anyone on that if this fight happens. He ain't no protected german fighter and IMO is the best fighter at 154 right now.
I've never even seen him fight. I see by looking at his record he beat Joel Julio, Santos and no one really else that I recognize. How did he look against these two guys?

Major props to paul williams if he takes the fight though, other then the belt, there isn't anything really to gain out of this fight since he's unheard of in the states and pretty much everywhere besides germany.

He looked real good against both, especially Julio. He took Julio to school. I'm pretty sure I have both of those fights on my hd. Let me know if you wanna peep them. I definitely have the Julio fight on here.

So it looks like Cotto vs Jennings & Pavlik vs Rubio will be on the same card:

Pavlik, Cotto PPV twinbill!
By Karl Freitag
Promoter Bob Arum revealed today that Top Rank is planning a major pay-per-view telecast on February 21 featuring WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik defending his title, plus two division champion Miguel Cotto fighting for the world title. The telecast will be split between two locations. Pavlik is expected to face Marco Antonio Rubio, while Cotto is expected to face Michael Jennings for the WBO welterweight belt vacated by Paul Williams.

It's a PPV, which imo sucks since they are both coming off of losses, however both fights are title fights. Also, from my understanding neither HBO or Showtime wanted this for Feb, so that's why it's going to be on PPV and not on regular HBO/Showtime. I'm guessing it will be a cheap PPV, like $24.95 or some shit.

^ Thanks Naner, I've never seen the guy fight, but if he beat those two guys convincingly I'm sure he ain't no joke. Paul would get much respect for taking a high risk low reward fight like that for sure.

Shane Mosley testifies he injected himself with EPO

NEW YORK (AP)—“Sugar” Shane Mosley told a grand jury in 2003 that he injected himself with the doping agent EPO as he prepared for a fight against Oscar De La Hoya, according to court transcripts and doping calendars reviewed by the New York Daily News.

The transcript of the boxer’s testimony was part of a BALCO file that was under a protective order before U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston decided last Wednesday to allow prosecutors to share thousands of documents with Barry Bonds’ lawyers.

Mosley has acknowledged using performance-enhancing drugs but has denied knowing the drugs were banned or illegal. His attorney, Judd Burstein, told the newspaper the testimony is consistent with what his client has said publicly.

“I am very relieved that this grand jury testimony has been released because it confirms that Shane has consistently recounted his dealings with (Victor) Conte from 2003 to today,” Burstein said in a story posted on the paper’s Web site Tuesday night.

Conte, the convicted steroids dealer who founded the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, has said he saw Mosley take EPO during a meeting in which Mosley was told the benefits and risks of performance-enhancing drugs and how to use them.

Mosley, who beat De La Hoya in the 2003 junior middleweight title bout, is expected to fight Antonio Margarito on Jan. 24 for the WBA welterweight championship.

Bonds’ trial is scheduled to begin March 2. Baseball’s career home run leader faces charges of making false statements and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying to a grand jury about whether he took performance-enhancing drugs. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
